i can't think of many reasons i wouldn't want souray.

64 pt dman w/ a LOT of upside... works for me.

he's coming off a big year, i believe his best yet... and he was out for awhile with a small shoulder injury.

he's expensive though... the habs will try to match the agents counter, at least they should.

he's a major power play presence... we need that.

alot of upside? he doesn't have any more upside then he's already shown. not to mention he can't play defense for s***, also not to mention that he was plus -28 last year. we already have a player like souray, his names matieu schneider, and he can also play defense. there's a reason why the habs offered markov a contract b4 souray, there's also a reason why they offered him more money then what souray will be offered.

The way I see it, if we lose Schneider, I'd love to get Souray. Many people say Souray isn't as good defensively as him, but I feel their equal, but Souray has more of an offensive upside and is better on the PP. I would not mind Souray here at all, he seems intriguing to me.

we'll agree to disagree... i see him having an increased impact whether he stays or leaves.

I really hope the Habs don't resign Souray. If they do, they're gonna be going into next season with the same core of players that missed the playoffs this year. If the Habs want to win, they need to shake up the core. Let Souray walk and make a big run at Drury or Briere. Both are very talented leaders who bring it every night. That's what the Habs need. They can live without a guy despite having 64 points was the worst +/- defender in the league. Bring in a big name forward and let the forwards worry about scoring.

I agree completely dump the s*** and get the grit. Souray is a cancer.. wow he has a cannon of a shot ...so what. The Habs need to go back to the drawing board, Briere is a must(french Canadian superstar). Dump Souray, Samsonov, Kovalev, and go after Briere and Drury. Start there and build it with grinders.

Big tough good offensive defensman with a booming shot, but yes, can't play d worth a s*** and is just a pylon. No thanks, everytime I think of souray's d i think of this...

Here are a few reasons the Wings can use him:

Fights Derian Hatcher and wins:

Fights (and pounds on) McCarty:

Here are a few reasons the Wings can use him:

Is he a useful player? Yes. Is he as good as he appears? Nope. As the other user said, he's similar to Gonchar offensively, but worse defensively. The offer is supposedly 4 million a year, which would be an acceptable salary for him. If they can get him for that, then they'll still be able to make a run at a Drury as long as they can dump Samsonov for a pick.

The thing that bugs me most about the Souray situation is the team's policy of not negotiating during the season. (Well, aside from Koivu.) If Gainey wanted to make an effort to sign him, he should have done it in the regular season so that he could trade him if negotiations went poorly. The Habs weren't a contender at the deadline, only a possible playoff team who obviously wasn't gonna make a run. His value was at an all time high during the season, they could have gotten good value for him rather than risking losing him for free while they made a failed playoff chase.

Does anyone remember Al Iafrate? Souray reminds me a lot of him.

He's a guy I wouldn't mind having on my team, but not at the price he'll cost. A defenseman that expensive should at least be reasonably solid all over the ice, and anyone who is familiar with him knows he's pretty much pure offense. Like others have said, Schneider is a better value than Souray is.

We don't want Sheldon..he cannot play defense...great shot can fight...but a sieve for forwards

I don't see montreal re-signing him...too much money

I f were going outside Scott hannon is the guy for us..toughness and defense at the right price
