Texas wildfires smell like a good mesquite barbeque fire, since that is what is burning -- scrub cedar, juniper and mesquite trees are common here, along with live oak (best firewood there is). They come out of a pocket or from a seam. They weren't there a minute ago, and now you're holding them in your hand. There are too many of them to just throw them on the ground, and if you stuff them in the pocket, they'll just work their way out again, so you have to find a garbage can just for a few random threads.
