shadow47 1 Report post Posted June 2, 2007 Here's an article I found discussing Ray Emery. While not a huge Emery fan, I've been impressed with his effort in the Finals...you can see he's trying his hardest. The website is BlackAthlete.net, so obviously there's a touch of racial bias in this, but still, I got a few chuckles. http://blackathlete.net/artman2/publish/Ho...ng_Ottawa.shtml Some excerpts: The Senators remind me of the 2000 version of the late 90's Stanley Cup Champion Devils. Both New Jersey and Ottawa had to return to the Eastern Conference finals many times to finally gain respect throughout the league. ...Emery, a fourth-round draft choice for Ottawa in 2001, has worn the black, white, and red Senators uniform his whole carrier. He has improved with each outstanding season but most hockey fans did not notice him until the last three years when the Senators made the Eastern Conference Finals. ...Emery has a very unique goalie style combining the tactics from his short lived teammate in '05-06, The Dominator, Dominik Hasek from the Detroit Red Wings-Buffalo Sabres and Patrick Roy of the Colorado Avalanche and Montreal Canadians. Emery has more speed then both of this fine gentlemen so Ray stops many pucks that other goalies just can't stop.... ...His quick hands and feet are his trademark and many young goalies will be copying his style for years to come, just as young goalies mimicked Patrick Roy butterfly style 20 years ago. ...Ray Emery will always be living in the footsteps of the other famous Black Stanley Cup goalie Grant Fuhr (Edmonton Oilers-St. Louis Blues) and the question will remain can he win six cups like his fellow Black Canadian. Statts 4 Report post Posted June 2, 2007 Emery is playing great in these playoffs no doubt. But until he has a few more successful seasons and playoff series, I will not compare him to the likes of Hasek and Roy.
IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted June 3, 2007 I don't think they are comparing Rayzor with Dom and Roy as far as acheivements. I think they are comparing his playing style as to which I agree 100%. I have actually blown up the boards lately with this opinion. I stand firmly with my conviction, and I am a bandwagon Ray Emery fan.
theman19 47 Report post Posted June 3, 2007 he has a rep for letting in some extremely weak goals at very inoportune times. Even if he wins the stanley cup that'll follow a goalie around. Ask Osgood.

Even when fighting Peters, Emery is smiling like a lil kid. Props for not punching Biron while he was down also.

I think I am developing a bit of a man crush! I would venture to say he is my 2nd favorite goaltender!

I would tend to disagree only because Hasek and Roy couldn't have more different playing styles.
IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted June 4, 2007 I would tend to disagree only because Hasek and Roy couldn't have more different playing styles. Well I am on more of the Dom side of the comparison. The only thing I can remember about Roy's style was his amazing replica of the statue of liberty....

WingsZR2 1 Report post Posted June 5, 2007 This defense stymies high powered offenses because defenders direct the puck and players to the boards and not in the middle of the ice. The Devils won the cup in 1998, 2000, and 2002 now could it be the Senators turn to hoist Lord Stanley's Cup in 2007 with a black goaltender. It will be 20 years since a person of a darker hue stood in the pipes in a Stanley Cup game. If my memory serves me correctly we won the cup in 98 and 02.
