Wild sign Backstrom to multi-year deal

Looks like if Hasek doesn't come back we could always make a low ball offer to Minnesota for Manny. He'd be alot better than going with just Osgood or bringing in some retread like Belfour.

Manny Fernandez? Uhh no, no thanks. The guy fought with Roloson for the starting job for years. After Roloson left, giving Manny sole possession of the starting job, Manny promptly lost the position to a rookie. Reason: he's not very good.

On top of that, he costs $4.33m per year. To put that into English, if we traded for him we'd have no room for anyone else. Period.

Not worth it. Osgood is better. The grass is not greener in Minnesota.

We could always offer up someone who's on the books that we want to clear, like Sammy. Maybe get a draft pick out of them while we're at it.

But yes, it really sucks he won't be on the market (Backstrom, that is). I would've loved to sign him and just trade Jimmy "I need another year again" Howard.

Josh Harding isn't ready to play LOOOOOOOOL oh lord. Re-signing backstrom is the right thing to do. It's not too hard to trade Fernandez...a few teams are looking for goalies and would be interested.

Allowing a young, extremely talented, proven goalie to fly in favor of a young, unproven tender is a silly idea no matter what the situation. What are you thinking? Should they just do it for form?
