RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 Appreciate the invite, but I've followed hockey for a long time in multiple cities and have never seen as much hate, elitism, and ill will from a message board as I've seen on this one. I love hockey. Good, old time, hard hitting hockey with passionate fans. I'm a North East transplant, but I will follow the local team in whatever city I am living in. Remember, it's the same guys being traded around the league now. Very few franchise players any more. I'm all for rivalries and pitching one team against another based on history or geography. But so many on this board have turned homer-ism into hate for other teams, players, and fans. And it sullies the game. It really does. I wish that I lived somewhere that was so passionate about hockey that it could be call "Hockeytown". But I don't. So I'll follow hockey whereever I go, and I won't ridicule the fans. Or the players. Or the team. I just want to enjoy the sport for what it is. The most magnificent game in the world, with the most gifted athelites, and the most knowledgable and passionate fans a sport could have. Good luck. As demonstrated by your example, Wings fans are amongst some of the finest in the game, but there is so much hate mixed in with the passion for some of your bretheren. Hope to play you (the Wings) in the playoffs again next year! I think your'e wrong about the Wings fans having alot of hate and ill will in general. Of all the Wings fans I've known all my life, none would post some of the things you are mentioning above. I think therein lies the problem, when you're on a message board, you're essentially anonymous an one can spew out anything they think from behind a computer screen. Unfortunately, it seems like a few people got carried away with their hatred towards another team - which could be bad or good if you want to establish rivalries. I'm looking forward to a Ducks rivalry - seen as how we really haven't had a true rival since the Avs. That would mean we need to meet in the playoffs for several consecutive years - fine with me. I'm not sure the new NHL is set for that, which is a shame since that really gets people into it. Oh and hey I wouldn't let a few posters get you down. In the late nineties about half a dozen of my neighbors in Boulder drove around with "Red Wings Suck" bumper stickers. One guy used to park next to me everyday. I just had to make he saw me wearing my Wings shirt every time we beat the Avs. It can actually be kind of fun to have a "hateful" rivalry sometimes, as long as it's all in good fun. RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 i'll give you the "elitism" part, but this place is a million times more respectable than the ducks forum. does that place even have mods? I think it's most forums. I never joined a Ducks board, but I went over there a few times during the series, esp after the Homer hit, and it was disgraceful. I wouldn't hold that against Ducks fans though - who knows who's posting that stuff??

Barrie 900 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 I can't deny the anti-Ducks comments/arguements. Actually I didn't come around as much during the playoffs this year as I do the rest of the season, because emotions are riding high. I'm been around here since 2003, trust me, things are usually cool .

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 I don't feel like staying if Ducks fans are going to be here... I highly doubt there'll be more than one or two anyways. Once the dead heat of summer falls in, they'll probably all be gone, and start focusing on the Dodgers. Sorry, but I just had to take that little stab there. I'm still bitter. And then it can just eat him up that this SoCal child is on her HS team! I highly doubt there'll be more than one or two anyways. Once the dead heat of summer falls in, they'll probably all be gone, and start focusing on the Dodgers. Sorry, but I just had to take that little stab there. I'm still bitter. Once the dead heat of summer falls in, they'll probably all be gone, and start focusing on the Dodgers. Sorry, but I just had to take that little stab there. I'm still bitter. Yeah, no doubt do...this post-playoff Special Olympics lovefest is giving me goosebumps. Bitterness is a fine drink...though it's not nearly as tasty as a cup of revenge served warm. And what' s up with certain folks being a fan of whatever geopraphically local team, whenever they move? Sure, I fully admit that I've had tickets to the Hurricanes since we've been down here, but anyone who knows me knows that I am first and foremost a Detroit fan. Heck...even when I got to pose next to the Cup I was wearing an Yzerman jersey. (though in my avatar pic I think I'm wearing a Canes hat and jersey...didn't really want to upset the man...a manager of hte Canes...who invited me to the private showing). Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 What happened during the Wings - Ducks series has been blown over by now. I'm one of the guilty ones who was a little "too passionate" during that series, and I apologize. I hope you reconsider, and decide to stay, as this board is a great place to talk about hockey. It does get pretty worked up during the playoffs, but you shouldn't have to worry about any of that during the offseason. Yeah i agree, i think the relationship can be mended. Its nothin' a little duck tape cant fix.

EasyMark 8 Report post Posted June 22, 2007 I want the Sharks fans to come back. Thanks for the invitation. This Sharks' fan enjoyed visiting the LGW forum. My opinion of the Wings' fans changed quite a bit after this series. As a whole, Wings' fans were knowledgeable, polite, and respectful of dissenting opinions -- in short, nothing like Pred fans. I think your'e wrong about the Wings fans having alot of hate and ill will in general. Of all the Wings fans I've known all my life, none would post some of the things you are mentioning above. My opinion of the Wings has mellowed considerably. I used to think they were the Spawn of Satan.... ...now only second cousins.
