KronwallCRUNCH 5 Report post Posted June 23, 2007 I have a friend that made the trip to the draft, he said that Holland was having lengthy discussions with both NYI and NJ. Just thought I'd pass it along.

Rice 42 Report post Posted June 23, 2007 (edited) It's probably just for picks. People seem to be forgetting that it's very rare for teams to trade for the rights to a UFA. Just because Philadelphia did it doesn't mean it's going to be the norm this off-season. Edited June 23, 2007 by ARice89

Just because Philadelphia did it doesn't mean it's going to be the norm this off-season. It may be rare prior to this year, but Philly may have set the train in motion. There are rumors of Calgary asking for the rights to Smyth, San Jose for the rights to Drury, and Edmonton for the rights to Gomez. I have never heard so many rumors of this nature before, so Holland getting in on the fun wouldnt surprise me at all.

I highly doubt all these teams are going to trade assets just so they can negotiate a few days early.
