Zion 93 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 Played a few years of roller when the Storm came to Toledo. Played some house league ice hockey in San Diego and then took 10 years off. Now I'm in Buffalo, playing pick-up hockey and hoping to join a league soon! Go Red Wings! Go Nuclear Postmen!
Gordie Howe hat trick 110 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 I played when I was a kid before middle school, and played all throughout high school. When I was younger I played left side D for the most part, then I moved into the goal and decided I loved that even more. So it is kind of a Dom story. But, then I grew out of my skates and a majority of my pads, and it seems we all know how expensive the sport can be. In the end college won out over hockey, allthough when I am through school, and making some real money it will gome right back to the front burner.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 Started skating at 7...played roller/street hockey for years. Didn't play organized ice hockey until 14. Played in travel leagues until college, at which point I played on the club team in the very specialized role of 'crazy midget lunatic shot blocking faceoff specialist.' I still try to make as many drop in sessions as possible.
Grind_Lines_#1_Fan 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 I've played since I was 5, it started with good old ice skating, then went to the travel teams from K-8th grade, play for my high school team now. Hockey is a good sport, as a player I can enjoy more as a fan.
BetweenThePipes 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 I've played a few times. I was a goalie twice on ice, nothing competitive, just a bunch of friends playing around. I've also played goalie in floor hockey for intramurals. I'd like to play more, but finding some cool people to play around with is a tad difficult for me. Statts 4 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 I played off and on since I was 5 years old until I was 18. I loved playing, but hated to practice, so I never really took hockey too seriously. Looking back I wish I had, but what ya gonna do? I plan to join a league this winter.
hawkupaloogie 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 I literally begged my parents to put me in hockey when I was younger but they thought it was too dangerous. PSH. Now from time to time I just go up at Troy with my friends and play some puck. that's kind of what happened to me. i remember asking my parents to let me play when i was 5 or 6, but my dad said "girls don't play hockey." he wanted me to do dance and band instead (which i did do for awhile). when i started going to northern, i enrolled in the skating class a few times, then started taking the hockey class. now i skate with a few women's teams, just for fun though. if i have the time and the money next season, i might play in a few tourneys. luckily, my dad's ok with it now. although, i think that has more to do with seeing my sister and i getting hurt from horseback riding, than with hockey at all. Drimo 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 I play defense. I started first year of high school and am still playing today on a casual / pick-up basis. I am hoping to get back into an adult league next fall, but the interest for ice hockey in Cincinnati has changed since I have been in college and living elsewhere for some years. In high school, I worked at the rink for 3 years so I got to play for free! And of course, I drove the Zam. Pretty neat machine!

superstarsingh 23 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 I have played hockey for 13-14 years. All year, ice, summer, roller. I am a hockey fiend. I learned how to skate when I was four and I started playing hockey the next year. Captain of my team for years.
Feldmarschall 9 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 (edited) My parents put skates and gear on me at age four, and I always kept with it. I played youth, then house leagues in Waterford and the Flint area until age fifteen or so. My high school didn't have a team, so it was my only option. I got disenfranchised with the entire thing and stopped playing, which I still consider the biggest mistake I've ever made. I never took hockey very seriously. At seventeen I graduated and went out to Ferris. Living across the street from the arena was just too much, so I geared up and started skating drop-in and adult leagues. Ultimately I was on the ice four times a week. Since I returned home, I've been playing one or two nights a week in beer leagues, where I get to be the young fast guy on the team. I miss full-contact stuff, but hockey is hockey and I will play until I am physically unable to continue. I just wish I was as dedicated as a kid as I am now. MonkeyGoalie 14 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 I started playing street hockey in grade school then started playing ice hockey when I got into college (@ MTU also where I learned how to skate). I would love to get back into it but I just don't have the money or time to even think about getting on to a team. I know some would take only because I'm one of those insane players (goalie). Swayze 81 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 I played roller hockey for 5 years when I was a little younger, I've been playing street hockey for a looooooooong time and I still do, wanted to play ice for my high school, but we owe'd the arena here $4,000 for screwing up the ice or something like that, and now i'm going to get back into playing roller hockey and possibly ice. I miss hockey
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 I'm 19 years old and have played hockey for 12 years. House League, Junior C, A, and BEER LEAGUE. I love it, it's my life, my passion.
DyingAlive 27 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 I started playing hockey like on a "team" when I was 5 years old. From then on I played every year until I was 13. I then stopped because after that my school did not have a team and my mother wanted me to put more time into basketball so I could play it in high-school. (Sadly, my small private school has no hockey team.) I must say I miss playing it very much. Every time I go to local high school games, I just think about how that could be me out there. Very hard, however, at this point I am very dedicated to basketball. I hope to pick up hockey once I go into college.
Packer487 3 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 I never played when I was younger because I was such a piss-poor skater. Eventually I got jealous of my roommate playing twice a week, so I signed up for the Never/Ever league in Ann Arbor. My first season I did absolutely nothing (0-0--0, 0 PIMs) and we made the championship game, but lost (the officiating was poor enough that the game was stopped so the head of the league could ***** out the refs, and they both got fired after the game). The next season I got new (lighter) skates and I led my team in goals, but we were terrible. Then the next season we got custom jerseys, had custom pucks made up for our home games, and even had a mascot come to our championship game. We ended up winning and it was an absolute blast. I played 1 more season in Ann Arbor and I just started my first season since moving to Madison. 1-0-1 so far! I sliced my hand open on my skate last week...that was sweet. The highlight of my young hockey career though? Playing at Joe Louis in the CCHA Media Game. I had an assist and we won something like 9-2. -Tim
RedFX 48 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 I played some of pickup/pond hockey as a kid in Ann Arbor, but I didn't start playing organized hockey till I moved to Tennessee at age 11. I played three years of high school hockey and played AAA as a senior (coached by former NHLer Darren Turcotte). I played a year of college-club at UT, but it was too time-consuming. I still play alot of pickup games whenever I come home, but my organized-hockey years are over.
Earthhuman 8 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 (edited) I've always played defense, since I was a wee lad in pee-wee. I'd consider myself a moderately offensive defensman. I played pee-wee, now play with the neighborhood (mostly adults, I'm just 16, but then I'm definitely no where near the best!). We play a lot of roller-hockey. I'm terrible but never gonna give up! I would love if someone on here played for the Red Wings, they would have more PM's per minute than anyone else on this site, ever. *Crosses fingers* EDIT: 2 more spots on the roster if anyone from Akron, Ohio needs a team! Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted June 25, 2007 I played hockey for 3 years in high school. I played right-wing. My number was 22(I tried to get 19 for Stevie Y, but 22 was as close as I could get, lol). We won the Big 9 Championship my freshman season, and played in the Big 9 Championship game the following season. Then after the next graduating class, we lost a ton of our core talent. And the upcoming freshmen were pathetic. I ended up quitting after Junior year because I got into a really bad car accident and broke my patela. I wanted to play on in college, but my parents pushed me more towards academics. I sure do miss it though. I try to play any chance I get with friends. Or even roller hockey now that its summer. Hockey is the greatest game. Period.
rosincula 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 I started skating at the age of 3. I figured skated from then to the age of 7. I played hockey in a league from 7 to 17. One of the worst decisions of my life was to quit because most of my former teammates went on to play college. I still play drop-in once in a while when I have the time. Oh, and I'm a goalie. I've only played "out" like twice in my life.
barnettkid14 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 I've played for 14 years in minor hockey, took two years off to concentrate on school, and am now training to get back into it for this year coming. This will be my last eligable year to play in the Junior leagues. For those that do not play, get yourself a pair of skates and give it a try, best thing in the world!!!
