Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted June 28, 2007 Any takers or ideas where the guy will end up. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=211936&hubname=nhl Decent numbers and still pretty young. I think he may be someone the Oilers end up looking at. -might also fit nicely on a second line here in Detroit.

Wingsfan4life19 26 Report post Posted June 28, 2007 I would feel indifferent either way... He's a smaller forward, however he has mid range numbers. However, It is a question whether those numbers were inflated due to Crosby. Either way, he shouldnt be someone we target, I wouldnt offer him more than 2.5...preferabbly 2.... His numbers were probably inflated because of who he was playing with - but don't forget that just proves he can complement other good players...such as Zetterberg and Datsyuk. He might be a good fit on a line with one of those guys. He only made 500k last year, so there are two scenarios. He doesn't give a crap WHO he plays for - he will take the highest bid. OR - he wants to win - and comes to the Wings for a reasonable price. Either way - I wont be heartbroken either way. I just think he would complement the team. Wing Nut 19 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2007 Dont even know if he's an FA or not but would like to see Mike Greir in the Winged Wheel. He was San Joses' best player during the play offs and he delivers gritt in dump trucks.

With only 2 years in and 48 points last year, maybe 60+ this year...they are nutts. I would not mind getting this guy. He's not small 6 foot 220+ lbs...Kenny do your magic... Rather than face that, they just cut him loose.

His numbers weren't inflated by Crosby. He was a second, sometimes third line guy. Ask yourself this, if he couldn't beat our Colby Armstrong on Pittsburgh and play on the 1st line, then how the hell would be beat out anyone to make it on Detroit's 2nd line? jagr68 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2007 You are right about that. His numbers had little to do with Crosby. He did play with Sid for a couple games, and scored a few. But I would doubt they even played 5 games together all season. But like someone else said, he can compliment great players. When he played with Crosby, his job was to stand in front of the net and score garbage goals or have his stick on the ice and wait for a pass from Sid, which he managed to do. So if the Wings got him, he may be able to compliment a guy like Datsyk or Zetterberg, but I don't think he's worth the money that he probably would have got from the Pens if he won arbitration. Colby Armstrong. He's got a big heart and gives it his all. He doesn't have much skill, but he knows how to lay some heavy hits. He sent a few guys to the hospital this past season, and they were all clean hits. Why was he paired with Crosby so long? I couldn't tell you. I would watch the Pens play Sid's rookie year and I could not figure out why Sid was paired with him. He couldn't catch a pass, make a good pass, or score a goal. It took till this year to finally get him off 1st line and put him on 3rd where he belongs. So to me, Crosby winning the Art Ross is impressive, but what is more impressive, is he did it paired with Colby over half the season! And just under half the season with Ryan Malone and for a few games and shifts, here and there, Malkin. Also, the way people are talking about the way Esposito has looked in rookie camp the past two days, there is a good chance he'll be yet another 18yr old to play in the NHL. He's a center but his junior coach (Patrick Roy) had him play wing the end of the year. It's said he could be paired with Crosby if he makes the team. If he can adjust to playing wing, that's another reason they won't need Oullet. Esposito, a guy who was ranked #1 in February, and down to 8th at the draft, how the slipped to #20 is a real surprise. I think it will help the Pens, because he'll probably want to prove all 19 other teams wrong.

I know a couple of things about Ouellete. 1. I picked him up on my fantasy team 2 years ago. Not last year, 2 years ago. And I plucked him off the FA wire this past year as well. Here's the thing with Ouellete, he's a natural scorer. He isn't flashy and doesn't rush the puck. He's more like a smaller version of Dave Andreychuk. He is very good on the power play and he DID NOT play a ton with Crosby. Ouellete was often on the 2nd PP unit and I don't think him not being on the 1st line had anything to do with Colby Armstrong being better. Rather it had to do with spreading out their scoring lines. Ouellete has great hands and a natural gift for scoring down low around the net. I don't know what kind of money he would want but he's a natural scorer, no doubt about that. I've watched him steadily for the past 2 seasons, i've tracked his numbers on my fantasy teams for just as long so i feel pretty confident in my assessment. As for his defensive abilities, I wouldn't nominate him for a Selke anytime soon.

He is still pretty young and his numbers have been going up over the last two seasons. The more I think about it, I think he would be a nice fit on the second line in Detroit.
