Smyth Signs with Colorado

It's an unwritten rule that you do not send offer sheets to other teams RFA's. It inflates the market and makes teams sign guys to contracts that are completely unnecessary. Do that to a team and the rest of the GM's could very well give you a massive "f*** You" when you come calling for a trade...

You mean like Carolina did to Fedorov? I guess noone told them about the unwritten rule. That drove the price up on Feds quite a bit if I remember correctly. Quite an unclassy move by them - but it tells you people will screw the unwritten rule if they think they have a shot.....

Well the Smyth deal will be good for me, since I'm probably going to buy some kind of package for the Avs this year. Gives me someone recognizable besides Sakic. The Avs have so many holes on their team, Smyth isn't the *missing piece* so to speak. Who knows if Theodore will show up - they didn't even try to move him. Budai is OK but I'm not sold on him being a playoff contending #1 goalie. They have no defenseman. They have a few promising young forwards - but not enough to scare anyone. Plus, they're in a tough division. I hope they make the playoffs for entertainment's sake, but I don't see Smyth alone getting them too far.....

Funny thing is. Im almost glad. I hated the guy before. And obviously I'll continue to hate him. I never wanted this guy. And I can't wait to put a whoopin on the Avs next season.

I never said it doesn't happen. Relax.

Well, actually, that's the whole point behind RFAs. You will only get a massive 'f*** You' from a GM if you send an offer sheet to someone and strongly overpay for them (ala Ryan Kesler), but if it was in the case of a Thomas Vanek or a Ray Emery, then it's fair game to send an offer sheet their way.

lol.

I saw this yesterday and had a good laugh , So much for wanting to win eh Smyth?

Have fun missing the playoffs you idiot , Vancouver , Calgary and Minnisota will be back in there spots next year while you guys are sitting on the sidelines.

Plus they overpaid for Hannan and Smyth and wont have enough room for Statsny or Wolski when there entry level contracts are up. Nice good Avs!

You never cease to amaze me with how stupid your organization really is

The NYR pretty much proved anything is possible son...I'm sure the Avs aren't too worried about having to sign Statsny and Wolski. Now, signing Statsny, Wolski, AND Svatos could be challenging, especially if Budaj ends up becoming a top No. 1 netminder in the league. But Sakic will be done by then and Theodore will be definitely off the books. Thats almost $13M freed up right there. Avs are fine. Are they are Cup contender? Probably not. But they are not going to be in Salary Cap Hell.

Maybe Colorado will be kinda good this year. It might even help rejuvinate the rivalry now that they have a couple decent players besides Sakic. It will be that much sweeter when the wings come here and kick the avs around next season!!

LOL @ us (oilers) playing Smyth like 8 times a year.

Back then when he shed tears after being traded i really thought he was sincere but i guess now we know that he cares for the money first.. and to sign with our division rival no less. *shakes head*

OH WELL

life goes on... don't need him.

He could've landed more money elsewhere. Talk to your GM about the insulting offer and letting Smyth walk over about 150K. Your anger is misplaced.
