once kenny is done with the signings for our team this year he should pay attention to the future , with rafalski's signing and if lidstrom is still playing in 3 yrs making good money then we can have 4 players tied up for 28 million

i was thinking we should really lock up guys longterm now

filppula has the tools , we really love the kid so why wait before he gets a good year when he can just cost us more after?

i was thinking ....

filppula 4 yrs at 2 million per ( he'd then be locked up for the next 5 yrs as rafalski and we'd have him at a good price)

quincey 4 yrs at 700k per ( give him a lebda type deal , might be too early but i got confidence in him after last playoffs)

draper ( 2yrs at 1.2 per )

cleary ( 2/3 yrs at 1.5 per )

i think with high salaries we got now and zetterberg soon to come we gotta take some chances so we can keep some of our guys with us together rather then having to let them go after they have a good season .

Filppula is the 1st guy id take care of and then cleary , if cleay gets another 20 + then he can test the market and get over 2 million and we could get screwed

1.2 isnt a serious paycut ?? thats almost 1 million less , and hes gotta get more money then maltby and hes at 888k, at the end of 2 yrs draper will be 39

I read the topic title and totally disagreed with signing our Ufa's and Rfa's for next season , then I read your post and actually agree with you . Flip has all the tool's to be the Wings second line centre for year's to come , Quincey has shown that he has potential to be a very good Defenceman once he gains a little more experience . Draper IMO has still got it in him to play for a few more year's at a high performance level and 1.2 million would be a bargain if we got him at that price. Cleary for me is an absolute must for the Wings to re - sign , the guy has proven that he has learned to apply himself and is more than capable to a good player that will chip in with a good few goal's and can also be huge in the playoff's.

It makes sense to me, if it can be done. There's a bonus incentive to doing this, because it gives your players more confidence in the organization and makes the franchise more attractive to outside free agents.

ya and if we wait till next season is over we might get screwed cause some players like filppula and cleary might get more money elsewhere , if draper plays and gets 20 goals again im sure if he tests the market he can get 2 million + a year from some team , and filppula even though if he gets 20 goals lets say and wont get a 2 million dollar average for the 2008-2009 season he'll just wait it out and if he plays good again he can eventually get more money during the 4 years

I'd rather lock up the guys we need and not have to worry about them , and if we have them at a reasonable price that can down the line become a bargain then all the better , we need to do that with rafalski lidstrom datsyuk and soon to be zetterberg , having high price tags

then in 2 years we can just concentrate on resigning zetterberg and franzen .......samuelsson can take a long awaited hike lol
