Bruins looking to dump salary

TheFourthPeriod.com

If the Bruins are going to sign any free agents this summer, they're first going to have to dump some salary, reports the Boston Herald.

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli confirmed this to the paper, leading to speculation that the team is trying to trade winger Glen Murray and his $4.15 million salary.

If the Bruins are unable to shed some salary, they'll likely remain quiet this summer.

The Bruins are believed to be interested in the likes of Bill Guerin, Brendan Shanahan and Karel Rachunek.

Looks like he's got the size:

Height: 6' 3" Weight: 222

He has scored 20 goals/ year for the fifth straight year.

Intriguing...

If we aquired him we'd still have enough left just under 4 mill to sign Dom. Plus Murray's contract expires in two years so it will not hinder the re-signing of Hank................

I want nothing to do with Murray. He's pretty much a winger version of Robert Lang.

If the 'ruins want to shed some payroll I'd be intrigued by Sturm. Fast, defensively sound and he's managed to pot 20+ goals for the last 7 seasons (and he didn't have Thornton or Savard spoon feeding him either).

He had Patrice Bergeron feeding him the puck though, but I see your point.

I've been wanting Murray for years. He's got grit, size and ability to score.

people bounce off of him because he's so big, but he's not gritty like we need gritty; somebody who is going to do what cleary did in the playoffs for 82 games.

and it's a little disconcerting that his tsn injury stats mention the word "groin" so often it looks like a porn daily.

Hm. That would actually be a German the Wings could use... :) (Although Uwe Krupp made me a Red Wings fan. Back in the ol' days...)

Sturm actually has only scored 20+ 5 times in his career, and has only been above 43 points once....I'd still take him though

No on murray at 4.15

So has Samuelsson. 20 goals is not worth $4m.

Hint: if he wasn't totally not worth his salary, the Bruins wouldn't be trying to get rid of him.

6 times (I accidentally counted his lockout season in Germany). And he's been over 43 points twice (I think the stats you're seeing might not be including the '06-'07 season).

This could be the answer to our top winger void.

I am PRAYING for this to happen. If we get Murray, I will be totally content with the Red Wings offseason. He would be a perfect addition to our team. And despite what some ppl are saying. The guy can put the puck in the net, plain and simple. He would definitely pan out better than Lang did here. We have to be smart about how much we give him. But this is the number one move I want Kenny to make. Although I wouldnt mind having Billy Guerin as well.

Murray is about 5 years past his prime.

I like the Lang comparison there. He is lazy, and doesn't use his good size at all. Cope that with his injury history, and it's a recipe for disaster. I'll give this one a big, resounding "no".

Murray would be great here. You guys forget, he's been playing for a s***ty team.

Regardless, he isn't what the Wings need. If we want to sign guys that don't use their size, Eric Daze is also out there.

...and it isn't just because he is big but doesn't use his size. The fact that he has injury problems the past few years, declining production, and a big contract are all downsizes to having him here. It's a risk, and one that's not worth taking.

It's the bruins they will trade any body.

Try to get Kessel and Bergereon for Little Caesar's Gift Certificates. I bet they take it! LOL

Hate to break it to you, but Mike O'Connell is no longer the GM of the Bruins. The trade jokes are bit prehistoric at this point.
