akustyk 84 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 (edited) http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=21...amp;hubName=nhl he's been a good goalie for them, but ditching proven Vokoun for draft picks and giving Mason, who's just fine, bold 3 M$? pretty strange if you ask me. huge money for a guy who has shown the ability but has yet to carry the team as legit No 1 goalie EDIT: http://nhlnumbers.com/nas.html - looks like Vokoun was making nearly 6M$ a year so ditching him wasn't necesarilly a bad idea if they look to cut costs Edited July 3, 2007 by akustyk

Heaton 1 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 He's worth 3m a year.
interminded 1 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 They consider Mason their future franchise goalie, I guess. A lot of money, but I think he'll be worth it. Unless he pulls a 'Theodore' or 'Raycroft' ..
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 That's a decent chunk of change for a 31 yr old goaltender who's never started more than 40 games in the NHL.
tipetz22 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 (edited) When I watch Mason play, for some reason I always think of Legace. Excellent, Solid Back-up with potential to be a starter, but fizzling underpressure. Edit: Spelling Edited July 3, 2007 by tipetz22
akustyk 84 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 They consider Mason their future franchise goalie, I guess. A lot of money, but I think he'll be worth it. I'm with you on this. Mason has the skill and deserves a start as no. 1 goalie. but 3M$ with him not yet being proven to be able to carry the team through the season - that's a big difference. even more with a team that seems to be ditching just about every bigger salary
GiantRobot 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 He's worth 3m a year. Yes he is. The only reason he sat last year was because Vokoun came back and they wanted to give him another run.

Edit: Spelling let's be honest: pressure = playoffs. He hasn't been there yet really, so we can't tell what he'll do under pressure. (I don't count those 5 games first round games last year..) Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 Fair number , I dont think Mason will be good next season though , I have a feeling Nashville are gonna miss the playoffs next year. Despite being in our division
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 I predict what looked to be part of the Preds foundation in Mason to come crumbling down next season. I think he'll be far from a rock in net. And that my friends, you can etch in stone..

And that my friends, you can etch in stone.. I pretty much agree. He does have a Legace quality to him. so goes the team, so goes Mason. And with the Preds lineup next year, he'll be tested more and have to carry the load of a full season.
Guest jaytan Report post Posted July 3, 2007 Maybe they're upping salaries to make it even easier to hit the cap floor.

And with the Preds lineup next year, he'll be tested more and have to carry the load of a full season. Legace is a real good comparison i think. Even with Mason putting up extremely good numbers ive never felt that potential #1 vibe with him, as with Manny. In the end, they'd be better off with Vokoun and the other Mason... RedFX 48 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 let's be honest: pressure = playoffs. He hasn't been there yet really, so we can't tell what he'll do under pressure. (I don't count those 5 games first round games last year..) He did allright in '06 playoffs given the circumstances. And he did a great job this year while Vokoun was hurt (for a time was second in the NHL in save percentage and fourth in GAA). He'll be fine in goal. The backup will be Pekka Rinne, who had a good couple years in Milwaukee and has looked pretty good in training camp.

Yeah, but theres a HUGE difference in being the fill in guy and being the without a doubt #1. I dont hate Nashville so dont think its just anti-preds thing, but he's got alot to prove. My gut tells me he'll be hovering sub .900 SV %

I agree that he's still got alot to prove and this is his chance to prove to everyone that he can carry the team.
