YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted July 7, 2007 (edited) Do people on here actually think that Bertuzzi and Calder made a difference about what spot we got in the standings?? Newsflash. For all intents and purposes, Calder and Bertuzzi didnt have an effect on whether or not we won games in the playoffs or in the regular season. Stop acting like Detroit let 3 bona fide goal scorers that helped us dominate all over the ice walk away for nothing. We let an underperforming borderline 2nd liner walk, an emotionally and physically damaged top 6er who hasnt played a full season in 2.5 years walk, and an old, slow, lazy, did-more-for-the-opposition-than-he-did-for-us forward walk and get perhaps the most ridiculous contract handed out since July 1st. While the offense may not be as offensively potent, it is younger, faster, hungrier and grittier. And the goal-scoring issues will be addressed when there is someone available who can address them. Everybody on here always ******* and complains about how theres no youth movement on this squad. Well, weve had youngsters on the squad for a few years - now we actually have some decent minutes to give them. For all we know, we could have a bonafide goalscorer in one of Filpppula, Hudler, or Grigorenko. Theres no better time to find out if they are than this season. And the beauty of this situation is that, even if they arent great performers, well have plenty of cash to pick some guys up over the course of the season. I'm one of the people not bitching. Let's come back here during the season and see how these three are working out on there new teams. My guess is that Lang will be OK in Chicago - no pressure - anything helps that team - good fit for him, good for him to get way overpaid. He can float all day long - noone will care. I'll be surprised if Bert makes it through the season healthy - not wishing him any harm - I just think he's washed up. I wouldn't have risked 4 mill a year on him either. Calder - who cares. Made no big impact here - won't anywhere else. OK depth player, but not for us. Wings have alot of young(er) guys on this team. Cheli and Hasek are really the only two bondfide old farts! norrisnick 1 Report post Posted July 7, 2007 Too much money for a guy who spends alot of his time in Grand Rapids imo. btw, how does the cap work with the minor system? If you sign a guy to the Wings but send him down, he still counts vs the cap. But if you sign a guy to the Griffins and bring him up, does he then start counting vs the cap? Just curious.... Hudler didn't spend a day in GR last season and he never will again (barring a rehab/conditioning stint some time in the future). He'll be up with the Wings all season long and he'll score 30+ goals either this season or next (I've held this stance far longer than Offsides). As for the cap/minors question. If a player is with an NHL team he counts against the cap. If a pleyer is in the minors he doesn't count against the cap (unless he's a player that signed a multi-year contract after he turned 35 which is no longer in the 1st year, the only guy we have that qualifies for that this year is Lidstrom and he's not going to GR). I liked Bert and Calder on the wings and was very happy with them On the same note I am excited that Huddles might actually get a regular shot seeing how we only sign D-men and that leaves a vast opening on the 2nd line Edited July 7, 2007 by OsGOD

But hes not somebody whos departure adversely affects this team. He would had to have had an impact on it for him to do that.

If Hudler gets sent to the minors then he has to et through waivers to get there. As stated above, he won't see the minors again except for a conditioning stint coming back from an injury. He led the AHL in scoring 2 seasons ago. While he may never ead the NHL in scoring like he did the AHL, he can, does, and will produce at this level.

OsGOD 3 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 (edited) I was happy with Bert on the Wings. But hes not somebody whos departure adversely affects this team. He would had to have had an impact on it for him to do that. You have to give the guy a chance to make an impact... Going back to the topic... Huddles can make a huge Impact on this team.... Has he yet? Bloody hell not! Why? because the 'cock won't let him play or give a chance. There is not much you can do if you are given s***ty minutes each game... unless you are Huddles and you score MORE than Sammy dpes all season with full minutes Edited July 9, 2007 by OsGOD
