Opie 308 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 I have been trying to keep track of this but some how I lost track of it. Have any of you heard or read anything about the instigator ruling being taken out of the rule book. I know the GM's recommended getting rid of it and the players stand behind getting rid of it, but will the league do anything about it.

vangvace 12 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 The change never survived the BOG meeting so it'll be the same as last season. However in positive news more of the minor leagues are dropping it except for the last couple minutes of the game. Tides are a turning and they're returning to the old ways... just like the touch-up rule:)

Sting 11 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 The NHL will probably observe how it works in leagues like the IHL for a year or two before acting.
uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 Nahh. Bettman will never get rid of it. Hes convinced the oh-so important American market is against violence in all forms... when its not. Don Cherry gave the nhl a blast of words, but Bettman is a stuborn ass-hole. If Bettman had his way, Hockey would be a no-contact sport and every American city would have a team. Actually, Bettman isn't opposed to fighting and doesn't want to eliminate it. Bettman Speaks on Fighting
uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 That article is stupid. You cant get rid of fighting because of players getting injured. If players dont want to risk getting injured, then they dont fight. Grrr Im all angry. I still hate Bettman.

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 If Bettman had his way, Hockey would be a no-contact sport and every American city would have a team. Not true. Only cities south of the Mason-Dixon line would have a team. Anything north of that (aka an actual hockey market) would be forbidden to have a team. Also, Dallas and Tampa would be moved to Biloxi, Mississippi and Macon, Georgia respectivily. Those cities have too many people from the north who like hockey. Plus they're getting the SeaWolves back this season. Edited July 6, 2007 by vangvace
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 hey hey hey... there is nothing wrong with Biloxi MS that another decade of repairs won't fix. (Sorry too soon?) Plus they're getting the SeaWolves back this season. What was the average attendance of the SeaWolves? 7? My point wasn't a stab at what happened with the hurricane (I'm not that mean, Christ). I said that because Biloxi is the exact opposite of a hockey market. It's a perfect area in Bettmans mind to put a new team.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 It should be taken away. I want to see a skill player get hammered , then have a tough guy come over and beat the holy hell out of him. Old Time Hockey!!!!!!!

I said that because Biloxi is the exact opposite of a hockey market. It's a perfect area in Bettmans mind to put a new team. No I stabbed a bit... but it was just a little deserving towards them on my part. To answer your question though... attendance was around 4-5K on average with records being set just over 7,000 during the playoffs. Loyal local fanbase and military kids (ok airmen but I swear most should still be wearing diapers) in attendance for the most part. With all the transients that come from the casinos and the air force training base it could be the model franchise for planning a Vegas team. Especially since before the storm Biloxi was only second to Vegas for money spent gambling. (and will again soon. Plans have it looking like Vegas South)
