I'm not very happy with the Wings' free agency moves, but there are teams who did worse. The salary cap really doesn't help.... I'm excited about Rafalski, and pissed about Bertuzzi, but that's about all.

I was mad about Bertuzzi...until I saw that Burke threw $4 million dollars at him....then I just laughed..... Very excited about Rafalski here for long term..... Minus Lang, Calder......I think the Wings are a better team this year than last....

It has yet to be seen if Bert can regain his old form. He certainly didn't show it in his brief stint as a wing, however he didn't have much time to get it together either. The ducks are taking a big gamble paying him as if he is still playing as a top forward. I for one am glad that detroit did not take that avenue. Bert may light it up this year, and play like he used to..........but its just (if not more) likely that he'll be an average player or get injured, just as he has for the past few years.

Until he shows otherwise, I just don't believe the old Bert is coming back.

i agree. i too was sad when we lost bert...but then thinking back to the playoffs, i was kind of irritated with him most of the time. maybe a healthy off season and he'll regain his old form. or maybe he'll be the bert from this spring's playoffs.

i guess at the end of the day, i'd rather give his playing time to someone like filppulla...someone who you're waiting to see how high they can go, not if they can regain some of their former glory. (and at a fraction of the price.) i personally think that full-time roles for flip and huds fills the void left by bertuzzi. sure, they don't have the size, but i never really saw bert using his to anyone's advantage during the playoffs. fill their roles last season with grigs and kopecky. it'd be nice to have someone with lang's skill and cleary's heart, but that probably won't happen.

by the way, i think the sharks will still be excellent this season. in fact, i see anaheim as beeing a weaker team than they were last year. (as others have mentioned, bert + schneids < teemu + neidermeyer [ sorry about the spelling ] ). there are still some decent d-men out there. looks like markov's not going to sign with the wings, and it seems a popular thing lately for our former player to head to the left coast. wouldn't be surprised to see him in teal next season.

I've been following what the Wings have been doing as closely as I can, but I recall most of the players leaving via free agency.

FYI, we have fans of other teams post here as well, i.e. Sharks, Flames, Oilers, Leafs, Black Hawks, Blues, Preds, and whoever else I missed.
