Known for his physical play, Kocur is one of the most penalized players in NHL history amassing a career total of 2519 penalty minutes in stints with the Detroit Red Wings, the New York Rangers and the Vancouver Canucks. Kocur retired at the end of the 1998-1999 season. He served as a video coach to Scotty Bowman from the 2001 season until Bowman's retirement following the 2002 season. Under head coach Dave Lewis, Kocur served as an associate coach along with Barry Smith. He was not asked to return after the hiring of new coach Mike Babcock.

Joe Kocur is now living in Michigan with his wife Kristen, son Liam, and daughter Kendall.

Answers.com says he is living in Michigan with his wife and daughters...no mention of what he's doing for a living these days.

Is the restaurant he started with Dave Lewis - Joe and Lewie's Penalty Box, or something like that - still open?? I think it was in someplace like Fenton or Fowlerville. I never got there.

If i remember correctly, the last thing i heard was that he was involved in a lawsuit regarding the restaurant he and Lewis owned. I didn't hear how that turned out however.

It's still open, they still own it, and the suit hasn't been settled. Kocur was counter-suing as well.

I think he is still with the wings...the video department. He rewinds the tapes from gameplay and practice. And in Stevies office he makes sure theres a coffee and newspaper on his desk. And that the toilet seat is down in his private bathroom...LOL... :yowza:

I drove by Joe and Louis's Penalty Box a couple of months ago and it was still open. I have ate there a few times its a typical sportsbar/restaurant. It has pretty good food, and was very reasonably priced, lots of great Redwings Memorabilia on the wall. I hear about Kocur being there fairly often, but he hasnt been there when I have... or at least that I know of...

Yeah I've ate there several times. My gf actually met Joey there twice. Unlike me, who has NEVER met Joe or Dave. From what she said, Kocur was wearing a big ass cowboy hat. LOL They have GREAT food. And tons of Red Wings stuff. Nice bar as well. Definitely a must if you're ever in the Fenton area.

Kocur's place, named Joe & Lewie's Penalty Box, is still alive and kicking. It is located at 2400 Owen Rd, Fenton, MI 48430. My name is Darren Brown and I do a live acoustic performance there every Friday night from 6:30 pm - 10:30 pm. It provides the perfect atmosphere for a Friday night out for dinner and/or drinks and meeting new people. The staff is excellent and friendly. I play all the best current songs and favorites from the 70s, 80s and 90s including classic rock, country, Motown, blues and folk.

Friday nights are the best time to come to Fenton to visit Joe & Lewie's Penalty Box and the best chance to see Kocur. He has always been a very gracious host to his clientele and friends.

His kids play hockey at the rink that I work at. He's there just about every weekend.

Funny story actually. A few weekends ago a lady locked her keys in her car and was asking some of us for help. One of my co-workers pointed and said, "Joey Kocur"s out in the lobby, you can ask him if he'll punch through the window for ya." She took him a little too seriously and went and asked Kocur if he'd do it. He just laughed and said, "Maybe if we were in Detroit..."

I've joked with him once or twice, but am usually too scared that his hand is just gonna come flying straight at my face.
