Not sure... what do you guys think? I would take him for a similar price and role as Drake, he could add some grit, (depending on his back) would be a good insurance policy for the kids, and has been known to score some timely goals in the post season. Not to mention he drops the gloves.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted July 16, 2007 It also says were interested in Niinama and Ekman , so I wouldnt beleive it. I would take Mac back though, even as a 14th forward.
Jackliveshere 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2007 I'd take him in a heartbeat. He is a completely different player with Detroit. I think he has 2 solid years left and they would be best spent in the Winged Wheel. Reunite the Grind Line and move Cleary up. Not to mention there would be a lot less cheapshots on Dats and Zetterberg with D-Mac around. He could most likely be signed for the league minimum and give him some $ incentives to get and stay healthy.
Mickeyisms Rule! 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2007 (edited) Who will be in charge of keeping him out of the casinos? I'd be worried for the guy that the glowing casino sign right across the river, not to mention the downtown casino would be too much temptation for the guy. Edited July 16, 2007 by Mickeyisms Rule! Why? Given Hollands track record, Niinimaa and Ekman are the exact type of players that Holland likes. Small, non-physical, offensive minded European players. I believe these rumors very much, unfourtantly. Now, if I could use my time machine on Niinimaa and flash him back to 5 years ago, I'd definitly take him. He used to be a great defenseman. Now he sucks though, and I advise against even considering the fact of signing him. Same goes for Ekman. The McCarty rumor doesn't surprise me a whole lot either. Holland has a knack from bringing back old, washed up players, especially if their former Wings.
Guest Agalloch Report post Posted July 16, 2007 No. The only people that want him back are the ones who can't let go of the past, or they're just dumb.
Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted July 16, 2007 If Mac can get his game back to where it was. I would take him back in a heartbeat. I love McCarty. And I always will. To me, he will always be a Red Wing at heart. But I dont want him to be a liability either. So if he can play and throw that body around without being put on the IR. I would LOVE to have number 25 back in the winged wheel.

Jackliveshere 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2007 Jack, I agree completely...pssst, we didn't resign Bert. Yeah - I know, first time posting since that incident, lol. No. The only people that want him back are the ones who can't let go of the past, or they're just dumb. Or the people who know the guy and what he's made off. He has more balls than 90% off the NHL and would defend teammates at the drop of a dime. He could be signed for barely anything and provide great depth for us. Stop dreaming off players that will never play here and realize a good thing when you see one.-

Not sure... what do you guys think? This is a pretty hilarious rumor. We're 'interested' in him? Trust me, nobody else will give him higher than league minimum if they sign him in the first place. If the front office wanted him, they'd have signed him already.
CenterIce 83 Report post Posted July 16, 2007 The only thing I can see is giving him a chance at camp, so he can get a job with another team. McCarty hasn't been able to stay healthy, and we Drake kind of takes his role. We really need to give the kids on the NHL club and in our system a chance. The Wings and the NHL are in a youth movement, and we really need to see what they can do.
Barrie 900 Report post Posted July 16, 2007 Bring back DMac? For the League minimum, sure. Anything more than that, nah.
DaWingsin071 4 Report post Posted July 16, 2007 One word DUMB, hes over the hill injured and out of shape. No Thank You. P.S. So in my fantasy football league I traded Willie Parker for Calvin Johnson good move or bad, I know Parker has tons of yards and so on. But I have Portis and Mcallister as well. Is Calvin for real????
Guest jaytan Report post Posted July 16, 2007 He'll always be one of my favorites, but I don't really think he would help the team that much.

bcwingsfan19 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2007 I'll agree with most of the people here. No thanks. As much as I like D-Mac I just don't think he should be back at any costs.
hockeysattva 8 Report post Posted July 17, 2007 As much as I am not impressed with "another 'bring darren back' thread" I cannot read enough "thats dumb" posts. I, for one, think report a new rumor -- even if it is a rumor and reported as such is thread worthy. I mean, seriously, its not like we have multiple threads about the subject that are on-going. You don't want to read it then DON'T. For what it is worth. I believe he could make some very substantial contrinutions to the team. But, I will present my points on the matter as well. 1. Darren has a huge heart. In terms of moral he brings the team up and there were definitely times last year when I thought we could use a guy like Darren on the bench and in the locker room. 2. We are not in a deficit when it comes to skilled players, and he would not be taking the spot of someone whom that was their purpose. He doesn't even get in the way of developing someone younger. We even got rid of Bootland... 3. I think you guys are really coming down pretty hard on him. The fact is that there are few (if any) players who were hurt more by the lock-out. I finally got into the first good contract of his career, and he lost a year of it. Then he was bought out. Yes, he was down, but if you don't think he can snap back then you haven't followed his career very long. 4. I have not been given any reason to think he isn't healthy. As far as I know he has made complete and full recoveries from everything that was hurting him. My only concern, and l do have one. Would he be able to forgive those who completely shat on him. I say yes, but I know that had to sting pretty bad.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 17, 2007 Although it would be an absolute joke if McCarty were signed, if the choice is no fighters or McCarty...i'll take Mac. But i'd most definitely be bitching up a storm over other guys we could have picked up for that department.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted July 17, 2007 No thank you. There is no point in signing McCarty. I'm not sure another depth forward is necessary at all at this point. Signing Drake virtually fills the same role that McCarty would take. As much as people say Drake has slowed down, Mac is even a step worse. The memories Mac brought to the Red Wings will always be remembered, but unfortunately nostalgia does not win championships.

Trust me, nobody else will give him higher than league minimum if they sign him in the first place. If the front office wanted him, they'd have signed him already. Mac is the type of guy that gets signed late in the Summer. So Kenny wasn't thinking of Mac as a top priority when July 1st hit, but as the Summer rolls on, he may be an option to round out the roster. Plus, it's not like we would be paying him big dollars... WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Another "Bring back D-Mac" thread Where did I ever say to bring him back? Or the people who know the guy and what he's made off.
