D-Mac

Now that is a sentiment I can agree with.

Low is a good fighter, Lou. Plus, he's 6'4. Why single him out? :P

He was the only scrapper i knew offhand that was a FA, Low's taken a step back a bit, but he'd still be more valuable than McCarty!

Do you really think Holland would sign Reed Low though Lou?

I think Mac for 200-300k would be a good deal.

No chance in hell! But im just throwing a name out there, since everyone is saying Mac and his diminished skills are worth the minimum. If you're going for fighting purposes...Low > McCarty...easily.

He's still a player than McCarty, and a better fighter than anyone on the current Wings team.

Thats not bad for Mac I guess.

I think a lot of people forget that this nostalgia, which is perhaps worth $450K in cap space to US, is not worth $450K in real money to the front office.

Thats your opinon. I'd take any enforcer for 450k , a guy like D-mac has the ability to be the player he used to be if he comes back to Detroit. I wouldnt be surprised if we invited him to Training camp.

I would be very happy if Mccarty came back, especialy if we had no other fighter on the team. As much as it pains me to say it, the truth is that he should run as far away from the wings as he can. Being the main physical force on a team is just no longer a role his body can take. He is more suited to being one of many tough players on a team. His first year in Calgary really suited him well as he was surrounded by a legit fighter in Simon and other players who were at least willing to stand up for one another. He was great for so many years, but playing as pysical as he did would take a toll on anyone. The heart may be willing, but the flesh is weak.

I think getting D-Mac for league min. as others have stated, would be awesome. You can't expect the guy to play every game, but if he could play every other game and chip in on a 4th line role, he would be a big addition, and whats the worse that happens, he plays more than every other game. If we can do it with Hasek, Mr. Make the impossible save, but let in the easy ones. its at least worth a shot. and if done the right way, can work. but your not going to get the old D-Mac.

You guys act like you really know what DMac would or wouldn't like.

why, I sent him down to Grand Rapids on my ps2 yesterday.

Yesterday on my PS2 I traded Hudler, Kopecky, Lilja, and a draft pick to Florida for Nathan Horton and Mike Van Ryn. You know, because that's a very realistic trade. ;)

Well, for one thing, he probably wouldn't want to do that.

true, but if it's a choice between don't make 450,000 and make it, i'm pretty sure he takes it. Besides i bet we're the only team in the league who'd even do that.

man 450K is too much for him. I WOULD PAY 450K TO PLAY FOR THE REDWINGS

Thats actually a very realistic trade! :P

I know it is! 3 scrubs and a low round draft pick for one of the games top power forwards (Horton) and a very good defenseman (Van Ryn). I mean, if I can do it, Ken Holland sure can!

Come on Kenny! Start manding those phones!!!!!!!1 :P

As much as I am not impressed with "another 'bring darren back' thread" I cannot read enough "thats dumb" posts.

I, for one, think report a new rumor -- even if it is a rumor and reported as such is thread worthy. I mean, seriously, its not like we have multiple threads about the subject that are on-going.

You don't want to read it then DON'T.

For what it is worth. I believe he could make some very substantial contrinutions to the team. But, I will present my points on the matter as well.

1. Darren has a huge heart. In terms of moral he brings the team up and there were definitely times last year when I thought we could use a guy like Darren on the bench and in the locker room.

2. We are not in a deficit when it comes to skilled players, and he would not be taking the spot of someone whom that was their purpose. He doesn't even get in the way of developing someone younger. We even got rid of Bootland...

3. I think you guys are really coming down pretty hard on him. The fact is that there are few (if any) players who were hurt more by the lock-out. I finally got into the first good contract of his career, and he lost a year of it. Then he was bought out.

Yes, he was down, but if you don't think he can snap back then you haven't followed his career very long.

4. I have not been given any reason to think he isn't healthy. As far as I know he has made complete and full recoveries from everything that was hurting him.

My only concern, and l do have one. Would he be able to forgive those who completely shat on him. I say yes, but I know that had to sting pretty bad.

Hey, when everybody just wants to repeat what has already been said why not quote yourself?

Hockeysattva I totally agree with what you wrote except I don't think you took it far enough.

From espn.com

"McCarty listed his income as $2.1 million in 2003, $1.5 million in 2004 and $193,959 in 2005. According to court documents, McCarty received $538,729 from the Red Wings when they bought out his contract, but his ex-wife Cheryl received 75 percent of that -- $404,046."

So, obviously his $190,000 of debt to casinos in Detroit and Vegas was his problem.

Yeah kick a guy when he is down... you know for the thoughtless bulls*** in the last two pages... Darren had to sell his three cup rings at the end of last year to try and make things right and it seems most of you cannot even read through a thread.
