BARNABY RETIRES.

VARIOUS SOURCES REPORT MATTHEW BARNABY HAS RETIRED AFTER FOURTEEN NHL SEASONS WITH SIX TEAMS. HE FINISHED WITH 300 POINTS AND 2, 562 PENALTY MINUTES IN 834 GAMES.

Spector's Note: My thanks to everyone who sent this in. I considered Barnaby a "hot dog" during his years with the Buffalo Sabres (which were his best) but there's no denying he was a fan favourite and the type of player teams loved as a teammate and hates as an opponent. He was a truly entertaining character in a league woefully short of them.

Wow. I didnt see that coming. I figured the guy had a few more years in him. Ya gotta give the guy credit. Even though he gets his ass kicked alot, he's not afraid of anyone. And will drop with anyone. Gotta respect that. Pretty funny guy as well. I always loved seeing him wave the refs away near the end of his fights.

He was one of my favorite players. It's a little sad to hear, but i think most people saw this coming after his injury last season. The guy was warrior who was willing to do whatever it took to help his team. He played with his heart on his sleeve and the fans loved him for that. He was one of the most entertaining part of ESPN's "The Season" with the Avalanche. I wish him all the best in the future.

He was one of those players I always hoped would end up on the Wings. Bummer.

Really? He always struck me as one of those guys that cried when his team lost as a kid--you know, overly-emotional, quick to take stupid penalties, the guy you like more when he 's not around.
