Jiri Fischer

Other than possible salary issues, I don't really see the 2 as being related...Fischer and Rafalski are completely different types of defensemen...

I think that the more likely scenario would be that we wouldn't be even talking with Markov if Fischer were still around, in fact we probably would never have gotten him in the first place....

well the salary issue is what i was referring to. Jiri was really coming into his own and probably would have received a substantial contract which would have made it harder to pursue Rafalski. Additionally we wouldnt have been desperate for a #2 defensemen as Jiri Fischer would have had that roll filled. Our D could quite possibly be Nick, Jiri, Kronwall, Lebda, Chelios, Quincy, Lilja.

The more interesting and parallel question is would we have signed Markov last season?

EDIT:I should read first

Then there's the obligatory "Let's bring back D-Mac" thread.

haha yeah, we just had that one though. Give it 2 weeks tops for a new one to pop up.

Interesting Question.. If Jiri Fischer doesnt have health issues do we have Brian Rafalski ?

Just makes you wonder how things would have worked out.

Fischer was our quintessential big guy.. I miss him so much.

Well I guess its that time again...a Fischer thread is always closely followed by a Fedorov one!

I think the difference is that Fischer would assuredly not be a washed-out nostalgia piece like Fedorov and D-Mac are. He'd still be here.

This is kind of like the "what would have happened if Vlady hadn't been hurt?" thread that pops up once in a while.

It's fun to speculate but sadly we will never know.

And please, no more "Bring Back D-Mac" threads...I really wish people would stop the nostalgia train already. I'm all for bringing former Wings back to the team but only if they fill a need the team presently has, not because they are former Wings.

Here is a good question:

With Fischer healthy does Kronwall get the contract he got?

I say know, I think the wings are hoping Kronner can become what Jiri was heading to, and they paid him hoping so.

I think Rafalski (or his type of D-man) would still have been necessary, it probably would have been a younger cheaper guy like Preisling. Jiri would have been on the first pairing with lids then you mix cheli and the Rafalski type guy with Lebda, Lilja, Quincey, etc.

just like clock work, thats how i know a new month is coming up, cause every month there is a thread simply titled, "Jiri Fischer"

I wish Fisch would be healthy to play and come back, but I don't see it happening.

As someone said earlier, Fischer would have lead to no Markov and most probably no Andreas Lilja extension.

We would have still had to compensate for the loss of Schneider, so Rafalski signing would be a probable one if Fischer was still playing. Just a matter of cap space.

I wish we had Fish still he's everything we need, big, young, hits, and sticks up for his teamates. I really miss Fish :crybaby::crybaby:

I wish we had Vladdy still too. Bowman said the Wings would have won at least 2 more Cups if he was healthy and I believe it.

Lidstrom-Konstantinov

Kronwall-Rafalski

Fischer-Chelios

Lebda-Quincy

Yow!

If Konstantinov AND Fischer were still around, Detroit probably wouldnt have Rafalski, Lilja, Markov or CHELIOS.

Not to mention, having Konstantinvo AND Fischer may have lead to Detroit finishing in a different spot in the standings, maybe winning a cup, thus changing our rank in the draft standings. So its possible we could have completely different prospects...
