interminded 1 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 Byorn Dafoe and Felix Potvin. Nobody signed them after the lockout. Did they officially retire or are they still available ? Not that the Wings shouls be interested, but some teams could sign them for cheap.
Cicada 4 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 both aged backups in the year before the lockout... most teams spent the lockout developing their younger players in the ahl/echl etc.. no need for those guys anymore
Winged Scooter 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 Felix the cat, there is a name I've not heard in a long time. Geez wouldn't he be in his early 40's by now?
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 They sit in the same prediciment as Ron Tugnutt and Steve Shields. All of the mentioned goalies aside from Potvin all played pretty poorly prior to the lockout. I guess it's just a matter of there being other fish in the sea. Younger goalies are coming in and seemingly getting better and better. At the end of the day, there are really only 60 that are truly designated to play games in the NHL. I guess those other 60 goalies caught the eye of teams more than Potvin and Dafoe did.

Vladinator 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 So he had 1 good year (and a couple of average ones) Even Jim Carey had 1 good season... Statistics are not everything, especially in regards to goalies... Dafoe was, at best, an average NHL goalie who had 1 good season.

Statistics are not everything, especially in regards to goalies... Dafoe was, at best, an average NHL goalie who had 1 good season. Well, then we would have to decide what makes a goalie under-average, average and above-average. And that's individual judgement. For you he was average, for me he was above-average. let's agree on that. Hey I thought of another one, what about old LA Kings goalie Stephan Fiset? according to http://www.hockeygoalies.org/bio/fiset.html : Announced retirement from professional hockey, September 10, 2002. TheBadOne 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 Last I heard... Dafoe's called it a career and now does charity golfing on behalf of the NHL. Potvin was approached by the Thrashers during the 05-06 season after Lehotnen and Dunham were sidelined with injuries, but he didn't have the new NHL goalie equipment and refused to sign a two-way deal so Steve Shields ended up signing on. Since then, who knows.
