Dano33 41 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 On ESPN Classic they are showing a marathon of Pro Beach Hockey. I haven't seen it in years. It's pretty funny because some of these guys out there are no good at hockey at all. There is a good hit every once in a while though. Plus ya gotta like the 2 point dome and the quarter pipe at the ends of the rink.

OsGOD 3 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 Pro beach hockey!!! I was wondering what happened to that. I love the ramps behind the goals and the V-form skates... that was a blast to watch.

Legionnaire11 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 talk about back in the day. there's no way that would make it onto ESPN these days. what I really do miss (seriously) is RHI, that was a pretty cool league!

Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 that was a blast. BTW Schneider should have signed with a pro beach hockey team. That way he could get two pointers and feel better then being a duck.
interminded 1 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 Those Salsa jersey's are awesome !! Too bad those aren't in the NHL. The San Jose Salsa. Doesn't sound that bad either...
Winged Scooter 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 I had forgotten all about that until this thread , awesome dude! sidenote: Rod Langway who was an all star defenseman with the Capitals; didn't he used to be one the PREMIER players in the Pro Beach League? haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 (edited) I'm a little alarmed at how many thought that rollerblade league was cool, and actually like the Salsa jerseys. though it does explain the popularity of the shootout in the NHL. I'm surprised Bettman hasn't considered putting in the quarter pipe at the end of NHL rinks to "make the game more appealing to new fans." EDIT: didn't Legace start his pro career in some rollerblade league? Edited July 25, 2007 by haroldsnepsts

EDIT: didn't Legace start his pro career in some rollerblade league? He played a year with a Toronto team after the draft, I think. I actually remember those outdoor games.. and they were abominably stupid. I did favor the RHI (which is where Legace played--not like I knew that stuff, I just looked it up last week), a roller hockey league that could support itself would be a good thing. But it's not going to happen. Check back with Eklund for some Bettman rumors on it though, you never know!
Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 (edited) I was playing in a local roller league when PBH was at the height of it's meager popularity. I thought it was always fun to watch, given that it was always airing in the middle of summer. It was a good way to pass the time in the offseason, as none of the other roller/minor league games were shown here in Texas. Those Salsa jerseys though, are atrocious. I think I'm going colorblind just by looking at them... Though, as memory serves all of them were pretty bad... *edit* removed links from the post, as the pages have daily bandwidth allocations, which were quickly exceeded. puckhog419 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 this was a long time ago. o i wish that was still on tv because that supplied a good off season fix of hockey
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted July 26, 2007 (edited) I liked watching the PBH league when it came on back in the day. Was a little bit different/unique, but we need a change of pace every now and then. What I never understood though, why did all the teams have jerseys with the same ending number, but no other jersey numbers? That didn't make sense to me... i.e. 01 11 21 31 and so on... 02 12 22 32 42 52 and so on... etc. Edited July 26, 2007 by SouthernWingsFan
Swayze 81 Report post Posted July 26, 2007 Awwwww I LOVED watching this in the summer! Great timing to show it, and even better it was sponsored by V-Form, and I was one of the few kids in my roller hockey league who wore V-Form. Side question: Does anyone know what happened to the company or know anywhere I can get a decent-sized pair of em? I love those skates!
Sleight 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2007 I loved that league, it was a poor man's version of arena football (which isn't saying much I know). But anyway, my team was the Gargoyles. Just found this, thought you guys might like it. I definately didn't remember how "awesome" their logos were. Link to logos
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted July 26, 2007 (edited) Wow, I actually remember that. It was so lame, but it was the only hockey I could watch during the offseason since I was only 10 years old, and NHL Center Ice didn't exist at that point. I remember the Salsa and the Express, but wasn't there a team named the Tornadoes? Maybe that was some other league. I had them too... didnt like the very much so I ended up giving them to a friend for a $1. I have no idea what happened to the company actually. I love the looks of them, just didn't ever get used to the feel.
DyingAlive 27 Report post Posted July 26, 2007 Me and my friend would watch this all the time as a kid. I just saw it on yesterday and I was greatly suprised. Haha, it's very fun to watch and I remember all the teams. I had looked up the logos and whatnot before and to finally see it on TV again was great.
