Looks like the wings are starting to send out the invites :D

July 12, Port Huron Times-Herald: The team has come to terms with center Kris Vernarsky, who was one of the Flags' consistent performers from a year ago. Terms were not disclosed.

[Kris] Vernarsky, 25, has played professional hockey since 1997 after being selected in the second round of the 2000 NHL entry draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs. He also had a brief stint with the Boston Bruins.

"Kris is a smart hockey player with NHL experience," Drulia said. "He can play in any situation."

Last year for the Flags, he scored 22 points in 34 games after being acquired in a trade with the Chicago Hounds. The Flags were sold last month to new owners who renamed the team the Icehawks. Vernarsky also has been invited to attend the Red Wings training camp in September.

Vernarsky's a 25-year-old centre who tips the scales at 6'3" and 201 lbs, and the former Plymouth Whaler has spent most of his career in the UHL (now IHL) and ECHL.

He's got size and potential, win win combination :sly:

I haven't found anything recent on him thus far but hockeysfuture.com has a 2005 article stating-

Kris Vernarsky, C – 2nd round (from Oilers), 51st overall (Plymouth Whalers, OHL)

Status: NHL bust

NHL Games Played: 17

Vernarsky is a big, strong center selected for his defensive poise and usefulness as a shutdown man . He has, however, thus far been an NHL bust. The Leafs traded him to Boston for Richard Jackman (now a Penguin) in 2002. In the two seasons prior to the lockout, Vernarsky had brief call-ups to Boston, doing nothing to distinguish himself (one goal in 17 games). If there had been no NHL lockout, Vernarsky may have found a full-time spot with Providence rather than with the Florida Everblades in the ECHL, but it’s unlikely he will ever be an NHL player .

Maybe things have changed in 2 years, who knows. But if nothing else, GR is looking better and better.

Exactly, it'll be a big improvement over last years team.

Vernarksy has a few NHL games of expierence with Boston. He's also a Michigan native, so that might give him the edge to someone else. He is big and physical, which I like, but it depends if he can put together other aspects of his game. He's still young, so he has potential.
