Wing Nut 19 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 What are the chances of him becoming a Wing? And for that matter do we want him? He burned us a couple of times last year in the playoffs.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted July 30, 2007 What are the chances of him becoming a Wing? And for that matter do we want him? He burned us a couple of times last year in the playoffs. Selanne has recently said that for him it's the Ducks or retirement.
DEVILSWATERBOY 10 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 Heres a question with that one could Salami do what Igor did with are young Russian players? Could he mentor some of are young fowards? Yes I know that he is from Finland not Sweden who would we rather have Forsbum or Salami?
KrazyGangsta 79 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 Selanne is an idiot ... so are the ducks for not having enough cap to re-sign him ... hoping niedermayer retires ... anyways selanne did say he would retire if he didn't play for the ducks he would retire but trust me offer him an extra million he would play for your team ... His probably trying to show his loyal ... but his not that loyal ... and why the hell would he want to retire he has like 100 points and more ... He can still play the game ... Apparently you know Selanne better than we do. Now that Selanne has won the cup, he has effectively done it all. Further, he certainly does not need the money. Wing Nut 19 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 A lot of players don't like retirement. Does he REALLY want to retire? Its hard for these guys to walk away from the game, especially when they can still play well. He has never been greedy to my memorey, if the Ducks can't or won't sign him and he wants to play another season or two why not Detroit?

Further, he certainly does not need the money. ...same could have been said about Yzerman, Shanahan, Lidstrom, Fedorov, Larionov, etc... after 1997 when all their contracts eventually came up... ...I would say Teemu is probably considerig retirement, but, if a couple of teams came calling, I am sure he would play another year. I cannot see him going to the eastern conf. so I'd have to say that the list of teams is pretty short. If not Anaheim, then I would say Detroit would be on the top of that VERY short list. After Detroit, maybe.... I cannot think of another team that is close to winning the cup as Detroit and Anaheim. He wouldn't go to Colorado after his failure there, maybe San Jose... IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 Realisticlly he is only 38. Here in Detroit we are spoiled seeing players stay until they are older. He is effective. Would I take him on Detroit, in a second. I would sacrifice all of our cap money to do so. It is extremely unrealistic that he will though. I don't know why he would not play in the East but there are plenty of teams that are SCF potentials. I am sure he will play and we probably will not sign him. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 As I said in another thread, Selanne would be exactly what Detroit is looking for. Speed, size and scoring on the wing. Imagine him on either Zetterberg or Datsyuk's wing.
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 Selanne is my favorite player, right after you know who. I would love to see him in Detroit, but wonder what his motivation would be to come here. If the Ducks don't keep him, for whatever salary they can offer, then I suspect he will retire. He is an amazing player, on the ice and off, IMO, so I hope he doesn't retire unless he's really ready to go.
interminded 1 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 It would be awesome having him in Detroit. Selanne is someone I really really respect. Like Loo said, on and off the ice a standup guy !
glasgowcelticwing 18 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 (edited) Selanne would be a good addition to the Wings. he'd provide us with a very able player to play on the second line wing for Filpulla. I'm thinking he's wanting to stay with the Duck's though . maybe he's waiting to see what happen's with Neidermayer , if he retires that would provide them with enough salary to re - sign him. If Neids doesn't retire then Selanne goes elsewhere. I don't think he's gonna retire either .....if was going to, he'd have done it already. On our current roster that makes him one of the bigger players. (he's as big as Holmstrom). When I say size, I dont' mean that he'll be out there crushing people with open ice hits. But even at 37 he's fast and relatively big and can score. That's what the Wings need. Edited July 30, 2007 by haroldsnepsts
Opie 308 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 I say bring him back only if he promise to do the ***** shooting celebration after every goal. That was friggin awesome!

He's as big as Cleary and Holmstrom. Of the forwards, only Samuelsson, Franzen and Kopeckey would be bigger. Edited July 30, 2007 by haroldsnepsts

Flip-check 6 Report post Posted July 31, 2007 ^ I'd say negative numbers could express the chance best, yeah. But evidently it's the offseason, since we're killing time even bothering to think about it. How finn it'd be though!
FinRedWing 172 Report post Posted July 31, 2007 Now that Selanne has won the cup, he has effectively done it all. Further, he certainly does not need the money. No he doesn't. I wouldn't be surprised if Teemu decided to play for $ 1 million or something like that (If there aren't any rules against huge home town discounts nowadays). Finnish newspapers wrote yesterday that Selanne's wife is pregnant again, don't know if that will play any part in his retirement decision though.
