The Ottawa Senators announced Tuesday the club has re-signed centre Chris Kelly to a one-year deal, avoiding arbitration with him.

Kelly recorded his best season in 2006-07, scoring 15 goals and adding 23 assists for 38 points in 82 games. He also had seven points while playing in all 20 post-season games.

In two full NHL seasons, and four games during the 2003-04 campaign, the 26-year-old has recorded 25 goals, 43 assists and 116 penalty minutes over 168 regular season games. Kelly also has contributed seven points in 30 career playoff games.

Kelly was Ottawa's third-round pick in the 1999 NHL draft

I love this guy. Plays hard and can put up points despite being relegated to 3rd line and checking line duties. Not too mention that in a rough game with the Kings I think it was, he stepped up and fought Jeff Cowan (who destroyed him by the way) because of what was going on during the game. He showed he had heart taking on a guy who he knew would clean his clock. Less talent and more hard work = Chris Kelly. Reminds me of some current wings who used to play that way.

Yep he has 'Future Red Winger' written all over him :D

He would be a great pick up if the opportunity presented itself sometime in his career.

Another one I wanted avoids arbitration. Damn it all...

Chris Kelly would be an excellent 3rd/4th line player for the Wings. He brings a great combination of energy and grit (and fighting capabilities :D ) along with decent offensive potential. He'd be a great pickup for the Wings sometime in the future.

I almost wonder at this point if these hearings will continue to go through. Most players slated for it are getting locked up before it even happens.

Lets just hope Cammalleri and the Kings can't reach an agreement. Not that other teams wouldn't be jumping all over him too, but he may want to go to a contender.

Anyone know what a team would have to give back to an RFA's team after arbitration. If it is the same as before, then don't bother posting it I know what the stipulations are for that.
