The New York Rangers announced Tuesday that the club has agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Marcel Hossa.

Hossa was set to go to salary arbitration with the Rangers on August 2.

Hossa, 25, appeared in 64 games with the Rangers this past season, recording 10 goals and eight assists for 18 points, along with 26 penalty minutes.

The 6-3, 220-pound forward has skated in 187 career NHL contests with the Rangers and Montreal Canadiens, registering 30 goals and 23 assists for 53 points, along with 78 penalty minutes.

Let the pieces fall into place...

Great news. Hossa takes up another spot on the Rags roster, meaning that could spell an end to his tenure there, giving the Wings the perfect opportunity to sign him. Like his antics or not, he's exactly what the Wings need: a gritty player who has the scoring potential to be a top 6 forward.

Get with it Kenny! Start manding those phones! :D

And that's where I'd expect the Scottie Hartnell contract to kick in. But I'd be surprised if NYR don't keep him.

I wouldn't be. Sather basically said Avery sucked during the arbitration hearing (for lack of better words). His time with the Rags will be one more year, maximum, after this.

Should clarify that Sather didn't say Avery sucked, but more or less said he was a big mouth and not a team player. Which is all true, but he still played great for them. Not a very savvy move on Sather's part: it was when Avery was brought in that they turned it around.

edited for grammar

what Sather said isn't that unusual for arbritration hearings...

he basically said all the negative things that have been said about avery over the years...

avery can be pissed, but it's just business..

i'm sure Avery was overstating his value just as much.
