I like the guy, but why give up the picks? Let him get a one year deal or some nonsense from the Panthers and look at him again when he goes UFA. I just don't see it as a priority... luxury? Maybe, but we need to hold onto the money we have for the deadline. Slim pickin's out there in UFA land right now boys.

I hope that Florida resigns him quickly, so we don't have to hear about him anymore on this forum.

Wow, you act like this is a Fedorov thread or something. This is the first thread even mentioning Weiss here, so it's not like he's talked about all the time.

I realize that, but it seems like every new name mentioned is someone that people here immediately want to sign. As someone posted earlier, we don't need another center and we need a big body in there, not another skilled forward. But I guess it is better than another "Fedorov should play defense" thread.

I'm not seeing a bunch of people saying git'r'done with this one. The reason I brought him up is because he is someone I hadn't really heard much about and it appears as though he and the team that holds his restricted rights aren't getting far in their negotiations.

I have seen a lot of people on here crying that Flip doesn't have what it takes ot be a second line center, and that Hudler is worthless. Although I don't agree with either of these statements, I thought I would throw this guy out for discussion.

/soapbox on

Frankly, if you don't liek the topic, start one that you do like. If you think that there is another player out there that we should take a look at, bring them up.

I kind of look at it like this: if we did sign this guy we would add a proven, young, north american player to our roster that is capable of putting up some points and holding his own at the NHL level. So what if we gave up some draft picks. At least then I wouldn't have to see all the Euro-bashers here crying that we took another "soft euro" in the first round again.

Now, you can either add to the discussion, or you can ignore it. But don't go trashing a topic that is as you said, not about Fedorov, or Kozlov, or McCarty, or Lapointe, or any of the other past Wings that we all came to love when they were wearing the winged-wheel.

Just a thought, but maybe thats because the players mentioned are players with something to offer? I didnt see anybody saying OMFG KENNIE SING HIM NOW!!!!!!111!1 in the Brisebois thread. At this point, guys like Weiss and Cammalleri would improve the team. Fedorovs shot from the point would more than replace Schneiders. You get the point. Whether or not we SHOULD sign them is another story completely..

ANOTHER center? Cleary, Franzen, Draper, Flip, Hank, and Datsyuk are all natural centers. At this point, the only guy that Detroit will probably have in the top 6 that ISNT a center is Homer. If we got Weiss, not only would our top-6 be completely unbalanced, it would feature 5/6 centers.

Cleary and Franzen are natural wingers who have played center. Hank, Dats, Flip, Draper, Hudler, Kopecky, Drake are natural centers.
