YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted August 9, 2007 He was good for the Hawks. Had them playing a very exciting brand of hockey. If injuries dont fail him (though Havlat and Ruutu are notorious for that), he could actually put together a pretty decent team, at least one that can score a lot of goals. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted August 9, 2007 (edited) I'm surprised Chicago did that. Why? Because signing guys to contracts means giving them money, and God forbid Bill Wirtz does that! Silliness aside, it's a good for the 'Hawks, because Savard is a pretty decent coach. He had them playing a good brand of hockey. Still don't think they'll be making the playoffs anytime soon though, as Ruutu and Soccer Kick (Havlat) will most likely both get injured right when the season starts. The Wings need someone to give them a kick in the butt and make these insanely high amount of intra-division games at least exciting enough to watch.

toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted August 10, 2007 Whenever I think of Savard I think of the goal he scored against the Oilers. I still see that as one of the best, if not "the best" goals of all time.

GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted August 10, 2007 Khabibulin is the whole key to that team. If he can stay healthy and play well, then he can steal games for them regardless of who else they have injured. However, if he's hurt, it doesn't really matter what Havlat or Ruutu do out there because they'll still be a losing team.
Yzerman#19 17 Report post Posted August 12, 2007 This first full season with Savard behind the bench will be crucial. They came out of the gate so strong the first couple weeks last season. Havlat was #1 in the scoring race for a while. And then all those injuries hit them. They desperately need to stay healthy this season. People in Chicago don't even know that team exists. Hopefully Savard can use Kane and some of their other youngsters to make that team exciting and tough to play against again. Success in a market like Chicago is vital to the NHL in the States. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted August 12, 2007 Success in a market like Chicago is vital to the NHL in the States. It would be nice if Gary Bettman realized this, and focused on getting the Blackhawks ownership to field a decent team instead of spending time on the current state of the Nashville Predators, who nobody gives a two s***s about outside of Nashville (and even there it's pretty scarce). Bettman should make Wirtz either field a decent team, or sell. He's ruining every aspect of that organization from top to bottom. The Chicago sports media doesn't even acknowledge the teams existance anymore.
