NHL Tournament of Logos

I love our logo and colors as much as the next guy but let's keep it real. Our logo is pretty bland. If i'm picking, here's my top logos if anyone's interested. PS: Don't be shocked if our logo doesn't do very well.

Current logos only

1. Montreal hands down

2. Chicago

3. Boston could swap with Detroit

4. Detroit

5. Toronto

6. New Jersey

7. Calgary

8. Ottawa

9. St.Louis

10. ???

If old logos could be used the old Buffalo Blue/Gold would easily be in my top 5, replacing Toronto.

IMHO our beloved Detroit Red Wing logo is pure genius! Nothing stands the test of time better than something so unique as the wing/wheel (wing borrowed from an amateur cycling club in Montreal & wheel symbolising the auto industry) - yet so simple with the red/white team colors.

For me many of the current logos are rather cartoonish, but hey if that's what sells then all the more power to them.

Maybe you didn't notice how high I had it ranked?

I agree, it is classy and classic, which is why I have it way up there. But the reality is that for anybody who doesn't love the wings its rather odd. Its a wheel with a wing on it. You're right that most of the new logos blow junks and look like they belong in the ECHL. But it is what sells and flashy, "cool" looking logos will likely beat up on some like the WIngs. I think our logo is one of the best partly because i'm a Wings fan. Stepping outside of that box for a second I have no problem admitting that ours is not the best in the league. If somebody has an opinion on what they think is the best i'd love to hear it.

I happen to think Montreal's is the best.

Eva, what no Montreal in the top 5? How much less complex, non cartoonish can you get. Not too mention Red/White/Blue color scheme. Their away jersey's kind of blow but the home Red ones and the old style whites that are basically the same as the current red one's are beautiful.

The classic C/H symbol is basically the NHL's version of the NY of the Yankees. But you have San Jose in there? I think San Jose is the epitome of cartoonish. It's a cartoon shark with orange eyes chomping a hockey stick to pieces. That's better than the Habs? I don't think so.

ps, i agree with your picks of the Wings, Hawks, Sens, just not in that order.

The Habs logo is nice, and it's in my top ten, but it just didn't feel right putting it above the five I listed. The next five are probably Bruins, Habs, Penguins, Minnesota, and maybe Carolina.

Today I voted for the Oilers over the Blue Jackets. To be honest I'm not fond of either one of them.

The OIler one has only been modified slightly over time, so there's a lot of tradition there, it just doesn't do much for me.

The one I do like is the one Todd McFarlane designed, but I know that one gets a lot of grief from folks. That it looks like a meteor which I can see, but I still like it lots. I was even thinking about buying a jersey like that b/c it's so cool to me, but my loyality to the Wings prevented me from doing so. I could maybe buy it and hang it up, but I couldn't wear it.

I had to vote for da' Oil today. I'm only a couple of hours from the C-bus Blow Jackets, but just can't give in to the "hometown" vote. In the immortal words of that one Asian guy from Major League, "They're still sh!tty."

Oh, also gave some love to the Hawks. They have to win something this century. It may as well be a first round series in a logo contest. Unless of course a Steinway falls on 'Dollar Bill'. That'd be a win too.

The oil logo bloze. It's a circle with the word Oilers in it, and a drop. At least the Jackets logo is something original.

As the Hawks fan said yesterday, to paraphrase, an actual logo shouldn't be beaten by a word.

Also, the Habs logo...come on... It's boring, and to someone who doesn't know anything about hockey, it's confusing. Why is there an H on it, instead of an M? Why does it look like a toilet seat? It's got history and tradition associated with it, but it's really a crap logo.
