Could it happen in hockey or does it?

Okay, so we know it happened in B-ball, so what about hockey? Has there ever been a bad ref discovered in hockey? Then again, we have the old Canadian bias thing. I just can't help thinking of Pavel being called for a weak hook in the last few miutes of the final game with the Ducks. Who calls that s*** in such an important game near the end? On the guy who happened to score two goals to get the game close at that. We all moaned about it all year. What the heck is up with NHL refs? On the take, confused with new rules, biased or just inept?

confusion of new rules, biased, inept..... Probably a bit of all three, but more so biased and inept. I mean i'm sure there is a little bit of confusion with the new rules, especially after spending so many years calling games according to the old rules, but these things aren't that hard to pick up on. Really with the linesmen and the referee, hockey should be similar to baseball. If the home plate umpire can't make a call, do to the fact that he didn't see it or it was a bad angle, then there should be a 1st or 3rd base umpire to help make the call. (Granted this doesn't always happen in baseball either) If the linesmen or the referee can't make a call, then the other one should be there to help make a decision. This should dramatically cut down on unseen penalties, that is IF the refs aren't biased or inept.

biased i believe, but i don't think it's the same biased that other sports have. I.e. Not for profit from gambling or the like. I think there's a tremendous biased towards Canadians teams that most people scoff at but, i for one seem to see every game i watch when a Canadian team is in town. I also believe that there's an understandable in some cases but in others not, baised against certain players. Some of this biased is totally appropriate; i.e. the diving calls sean avery and paul karyia get. Some are not,..like how certain europeans get whacked, attacked, and generally cheated at whenever they have the puck and it's never called (Datsyuk is a good example, but Z gets it alot more)

Inconsistency in agreeing on how the rules/game should be called, whether you let almost everything go, or call everything, nothing more and nothing less. There's no bias, no betting, no ineptness, no conspiracy theories to draw up, just lack of understanding/agreement.

I don't care if you call just 2 penalties a game or 20 (although I hope it wouldn't come to that). Just try to be as consistent and fair with your calls as possible as a group of referees for a game.

I think there's more referees who do this. Not only in basketball, and I'm not speaking for hockey either, but sports in general. Just think, Tim Donaghy was the only one who got CAUGHT. I think there's more than meets the eye, because not that hard to keep these things a secret.
