FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted August 19, 2007 After getting Vokoun, this shouldn't be a surprise, but the Panthers have no need for Belfour so he's off to Europe. http://www.miamiherald.com/623/story/207983.html

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted August 20, 2007 He was great back in the days but he should have retired a long time ago!! Long time ago? Why? Until the lockout, Belfour was still an excellent goalie. Having that year off really screwed up his back, because he wasn't doing anything at all, and was out of shape. Belfour may be an *******, but there is no denying that he was a great goalie in the NHL.
Guest Yzer19 Report post Posted August 20, 2007 Good riddance. I've always hated Belfour especially when he was a Blackhawk. I also thought he was overrated.
TheBadOne 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2007 Thats great for that team, and kinda sucks for Mr. Belfour. But how many times can you be abusive to your backup goalies, make drunken and disorderly appearances in public, and still expect to get a free pass? If he wants to continue playing, it comes down to this. It would be worse if it were CuJo. And I wouldn't take playing in a 2nd Division in Sweden as a bad thing. The worst teams in the SEL can be demoted to the 2nd Division while the best teams in the 2nd division can be promoted to the SEL. The team he's signing with used to be an SEL team that ended up in the 2nd division because they had a bad regular season and subsequently lost the tournament that would have kept them in the big league. If he can lead them to a great record this year and win said tournament, then he did exactly what he was signed to do.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted August 20, 2007 Good riddance. I've always hated Belfour especially when he was a Blackhawk. I also thought he was overrated. Despite him being a jerk off the ice perception wise...how is he overrated? Won a Stanley Cup. Among the leaders in all-time wins. Yep, real overrated there... GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted August 20, 2007 Looks like he's still smokin' that grass. What the hell is he thinking? Either come back to the NHL or retire. Why would a hall of fame goalie choose to end his career like this?

Why would a hall of fame goalie choose to end his career like this? This may be a long shot, but maybe he just loves to play hockey?

FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted August 21, 2007 (edited) If your post is in response to the title: what I meant was - it's not the NHL. As nice as a foreign league may be, it's still not the big dance. I have zero knowledge of the Swedish Elite League's inner working. Thanks for the info. And I wouldn't take playing in a 2nd Division in Sweden as a bad thing. The worst teams in the SEL can be demoted to the 2nd Division while the best teams in the 2nd division can be promoted to the SEL. Yeah, as long as he's the one who ends up in jail, rather than you. Although, I guess I see your point. It would've been fun to hear him bribe the police with $1 billion if they let him go.
