I think if they do finalize a Detroit/Chicago Winter Classic there are really only 2 choices if they want both teams to go the throwback rout. Detroit will either wear the white with red stripes and "Detroit" on the front or they will go back to the early Red Wings jersey small more "cartoonize" winged wheel without names on the back.

I'm pretty sure that is the worst jersey ever. Don Cherry should wear that design once. It would be really funny.

The only non-winged-wheel jersey worth wearing is the very first one, with one red stripe across the front and the old English D that sometimes shows up on ballcaps these days.

...and they both should HAVE to wear SWEATERS like the old timers. Forget this RBK crap or even the old CCM/NIKE ones, I'm talking real knitted sweaters! Now that would be throwback!

Uh, because they aren't getting paid? They're just Photoshop creations done in blog readers' spare time. It's not like it's a squad of hired designers drafting these things up for franchises' consideration.

If the Wings adopted a third jersey that was anything other than a replica of one of their past uniforms, I would probably not support it. When you are one of the most storied franchises in the NHL, you don't need to do such things to market yourself.

The best marketing is giving your fans good hockey. Please Mr. Ilitch, don't allow anyone to mess with a good thing!

why is anyone giving this site any consideration? whoever is designing these is terrible. It's clear his "Wings concept" is a design stolen from the stitching of a baseball cap. I guess he did his job though, he's getting traffic to his site filled with terrible artwork.

Because, again, it isn't him who's doing it. The concepts are submitted to him by readers, usually under the heading of 'Concept Nightmares'. The original point of the blog was to give news on the EDGE jerseys during last years' offseason, plus give out a couple best/worst logos ever playoff-tree polls.

That said, he's a Lightning fan, which in and of itself is inexcusable.

Actually it wasn't. Detroit Hockey started out with 6 different jerseys in 7 years. The Detroit Cougars had a different jersey each year they were around, which lasted for 4 years. Then they became the Detroit Falcons and had the same jersey the 2 years they were around. Then they became the Red Wings who also changed the look of their jersey a couple of times. Personally I would like to see a throw back to the jersey that the Cougars wore their second year in the league.

It shows a bit of history behind the team.
