Ozzie30 170 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 I was reading the Hockey News and The NHL Yearbook on a plane ride this weekend, and I read that no matter what decision Neidermayer makes the Ducks have to eat his salary this year. Apparently the same thing happened with Vladimir Malakhov. I don't have the mags with me at work and can't quote which one it was exactly but I will before the end of the day. If this is true the Ducks are screwed if he retires!!! The ducks are expected to suspend him when he doesn't show up for camp. His salary, therefore, will not count against the cap. The team may decide to pay him, but that's up to the powers that be.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 And, as expected... http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=218073&hubname=nhl Of course, this is just a cheap way for the Ducks to get out of paying him while he continues to behave like a selfish brat. If it lasts past training camp, I'd love to see the league take action. Which, of course, would never happen. Some "captain", eh?
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 I am so lost. Did he purposely not want to show up to camp so if he did want to return and play it wouldn't count against them cap wise? How is that not so very obvious?

Maybe, just maybe if all of it wasn't so public - but it is very clear what is going on.

If this is really the case then it was SO planned, and that really pisses me off. Makes me hate them even more. October 3rd can't come soon enough.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 The Ducks are some scam artists. Niedermayers 6.75 million contract comes off the cap, giving the ducks around 7 or so million to work with. What I think there going to do, is re-sign Selanne for 3-4 million. Wait till 2-3 weeks before the playoffs, annouce Niedermayer is coming back, and all of a sudden, the cap will be gone for the playoffs, and the roster amount doesnt matter. There Lineup? Kunitz-Mcdonald-Selanne Perry-Getzlaf-Bertuzzi Niedermayer-Pahlson-Moen May-King-Parros/Lacouture Niedermayer-Beacheumin Pronger-Schnieder O'donnell-Hnidy Giguere Oh, and all of this is allowed under the CBA. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted September 12, 2007 I think this scheme would be pretty damn hilarious actually! The sad part is that it was obvious from the first 'I might not be retiring' that this was what was going on. I personally hope the Ducks spend most of the cap space made available by the suspension, and then fail to make the playoffs because of shoddy defense. Because that's what Burke and the Ducks deserve for this BS.
