Interesting to say the least.

Grigs looks like he's off to GR for a spell, unless he blows the camp apart.

those are like the worst lines i've ever seen

I love this board. People are all 'Z and Dats have such good chemistry, why break them up' and then are like 'Sammy and Franzen over Cleary? WTF?'

It's like Datsyuk and Zetterberg are the only players on the team that have chemistry, and everyone else should just be ranked 1st line to 4th line based on how many points they scored last year, unless they're Sammy because he sucks because he's not a PF.

Waive Samuelson and put Grigs in his place. Scratche Lilja and with Sopel being invited to camp, but him in Lilja's place and those lines arent bad.

Who in the NHL is just paid over $1M and can guarantee you around a 20-goal season.

I know Samuelsson is not a fan-favorite on here and I'm definitely no spokesperson/agent for him but the ripping he gets on here is a little bit ridiculous at time.

He's not counted on to be the main scorer, he was better than Jason Williams ever was on the point of the PP and didn't turn the puck over anywhere nearly as much as him, and the only reason he was on the point to begin with was due to injuries on defense.

He's not a steal in terms of salary but he's not overpaid by any stretch of the imagination.

How would you, me, or anybody else in here know this? The season hasn't even started yet...

And five games into the season. And five games after that. And five games after that. And so on. Amen to that, Heaton.....people are always going "zomg babs iz moron" and getting all upset about the lines. How can Hudler be on the third line???? How is Franzen a first liner???? Defensive pairings are idiotic!!!!

Listen up, people, and this isn't hard: These things change all the friggin' time. Everyone always acts like they're set in stone. They'll shuffle periodically as people get hurt, certain combos go cold and others get hot, guys get called up or sent down, trades happen....and so on.

You would think more people would use basic logic like this when it's obvious, but of course it rarely happens...

Those lines suck.

...and I wonder why people actually rate Kopecky over Grigorenko. Being 6'3 means nothing in his case: he doesn't use his size at all. Grigorenko sounds like a much grittier player, and he also has more scoring potential. If Kopecky gets the nod over Grigorenko, I'll be extremely frustrated with the direction this team is going.

I need not disgress my distaste for these lines anymore, though I certainly hope Holland picks up the slack and signs somebody that can play on the top 6. Franzen and Hudler on the top 6 makes me sick.

Again, how do we know how bad they are before the season even starts?

I know that, but just seeing it put out like this from the guy in charge.... It has me worried. Our D is going to be in trouble in Cheli's playing light minutes and Rafalski is paired with Lidstrom.

If those lines don't work, then Babcock will change them.....

If Huds has found that extra burst of speed, he can be the sniper we have been crying out for. Maybe he has been working on it over the summer, I hope so. I'm still hoping to see a Huds Flip Grigs line one

day, just wishful thinking at the moment I suppose.

Would anyone not salivate at this? Don't ask where Sammy went, because I don't know either.

ETA: Heaton, I knew I would do something like that. It's why I don't normally do line posts :P , I will fix it.

I'm just surprised that Hudler is as high as the second line. Either Babcock must have finally seen something in him or he's just putting him out there out of necessity.

He'll be top 3 in goals and top 5 in points for the Wings. May as well give him the minutes to do so.

The kid has at worst the 3rd best offensive skill set on the team. Use it.

That line would get pushed around with its lack of size. Then again, with the lineup that we have it'd be hard to put any line together that isn't missing size.

That's what I've always thought. Babcock just always seemed deadset against giving him any more than 5 minutes a game and I - along with probably half the board here - never understood why. And even with the limited ice time he had last season, he was still scoring in bunches. I'd love to see what he can do with top line minutes.

I'm not going to get too upset about those lines since Babcock is just starting to figure things out. Still, I'm not big at all on splitting up Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Those two just flow simultaneously together, and we know what a line with Holmstrom is capable of.

Plus, it seems stupid to me when Filppula is talented enough to fit 2nd line duties, and him and Hudler have a history playing together..so why not build on that? Franzen is ideal on the 3rd line and should stay there unless size becomes an issue on the second line. Anyway, here's how I see it....

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom

Hudler - Filppula - Samuelsson (I'd actually prefer Cleary here, but I don't see Sammy playing on the 4th line...)

Franzen - Draper - Maltby

Drake - Kopecky - Cleary

Lidstrom - Kronwall

Rafalski - Lebda

Chelios - Lilja (not sure about splitting up Chelli and Lebda, but I think Lebda is ready for top-4 minutes and would compliment Rafalski well.)

Although, as somone brought up, our lack of size is sad.

kinda like this:

Hull Fedorov Shanahan

Robitaille, Yzerman, Datsyuk

Grigoerernko, Larionov, Filtipila

Maltby, Draper, McCarthy

D- can stay the same

Rewind back 5 years in a time machine, and those lines look pretty good. :P
