Revisiting the Jack Johnson Trade

let me clear the air in this one. As someone who lives in North Carolina i can tell you Jack Johnson basically pulled an Eric Lindros but he did it alot smoother. He made it very clear to Carolina that he was never going to play for there team. To the media however he was like "oh i'm going to finish school blah blah, i won't play for four years,..blah blah" The whole time he's telling Carolina managment i'm not playing for your team, as he rejects contract after contract by Carolina. His Dad also told the Carolina media that no matter where he plays he's going to be the highest paid player. So, after saying he's going to finish school for two years,...he's traded and immediately signs a contract.

Now i'm not saying he's evil, or anything else, it was probably a good business move on his part and Yes Carolina got totally hosed on this trade. But, it wasn't a case of Carolina just being dumb for dumb sake,...Johnson orchistrated this whole thing behind the scenes.

I totally understand that, but I HAVE to believe that Rutherford could have gotten a lot more for Johnson than a 3rd line forward and a 5th/6th defenseman.

If I remember correctly there were some media articles I read (when the trade happened) that Johnson didn't want to play for the Hurricanes and probably never would have.

BTW, I go to WMU and have seen his play for MIchigan. He's definately a big boy on the ice and very solid in his own zone. I still say Carolina got screwed in this trade. Were there no better offers for Johnson around the league? That's hard to believe.

Yeah but he loves ham sandwiches, that would be the kicker. The slice of pig flesh with some mustard and cheese and this man will love Illitch forever and we could use the B's as a second farm team. Just let them draft and build up good players only to trade them to Detroit for Pork Products and By Products!!

Depends on the kind of bread is used, kind of cheese, and the quality of the ham.

I have to say when I saw him play when Michigan and MSU played I thought that he was a very good, very phisical defenceman with one heck of a shot. The only down fall in his playing I saw was his ocassional tendency to go for the big hit resulting in giving up a goal from being out of position. That type of play can go away with more experince and maturity.

I like the way you think.

Who do you think has the worst management..

1. Boston

2. NYI

3. Phoenix

4. other?

I threw Phoenix in because I've followed that Franchise since the move from Winnepeg and they have made some boneheaded trades & signings and remained bad for over a decade. (example Briere and a 2nd for Gratton and a 3rd).

I still think the Islanders are the biggest morons.

What do the first 2 on your list have in common;

Mr. Black Death to a franchise himself- Mike  Milbury, he makes Matt Millen look almost smart. Alright neither of these 2 gentlemen will ever be a member of Mensa.

Chicago has to be in the top 3, they have been bad for a long time. Some of the new franchises haven't been around enough to be horrible. But give some of them time, they are trying hard to get there.

Heck, we couldve offered Hudler/Samuleson and Kronwall/Meech for Johnson and Carolina wouldve accepted that.

Damn Illitch and whats his names feud.

Oh, and on the topic of Mike Milbury, TSN has hired him as a color anaylst, lol, thats gonna be fun.

You've also got to up Toronto up there.

Sure JFJ made a good move in getting Toskala but lets not forget about the horrible defense he signed last season. GIving Kubina and McCabe all that money was the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

TO should have let McCabe walk and then did whatever it could to get Chara.
