sirdrake 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 if you compare osgood to other goalies he's an odd ball. he doesn't have the attitude of js giguere or tomas vokoun. he looks young and he doesn't ever curse. but what bothers me most is his helmet. when you look at other goalies they have helmets with designs on them reflecting their personalities. vesa toskala has a skull head. eddie belfour had an eagle. even todd bertuzzi (not a goalie) has a skull emblem on his helment. btw. his first name is chris. do you think chris chelios is some sort of drama queen and just breaks down osgood mentally for using the same name on the team? WingNutt 12 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 what are you kidding me Osgood has the coolest mask in the league. on a serious note, Its all about comfort only another goalie would understand, every peice of equiptment a goalie wears has to be PERFECT. he obviously prefers a combo mask, like a few others in the league. Go with whats right as long as Osgood keeps the puck out of the net I don't care if he wears a welding mask. moving on
Offsides 21 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 So you are saying that because he doesn't have a printed helmet that he also doesn't have a personality? I might have to investigate this.

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 So if Osgood is an oddball up next to other goalies, does that mean he's normal? Ozzie being the only goalie in the league that I can think of off the top of my head that wears that mask, he's instantly recognizable, so I like it. I know Cloutier wears the same one, but he's easily distinguished by the ever-present red glow somewhere behind him.
WingNutt 12 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 Wonder what Oprah would say about all this... like rich ass Oprah gives two s***s about hockey, I'd be more interested in what Jerry Springer has to say.

TheBadOne 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 (edited) Well, I dunno how Bert ended up with a skull on his (are you sure it's not the Mission logo, it looks scary as it is) but the helmet Ozzie uses is the same one I use: A Cooper SK2000 helmet with a Cooper (or Bauer, depending when you go it) HM30 cage. It's plastic and therefore any paint designs are liable to smear, especially if he takes a shot to the noggin (I've had to re-paint mine twice already because ithe replacement side plates were a different color than the helmet itself, and its due for another painting.) By comparison, Hasek's $2000 helmet is made of the same kevlar/fiberglass composites most goalie masks are made of, therefore can be painted without problem. So that leaves Hasek, Ozzy, and Cloutier as the sole helmet/cage combo goalies left. Tim Thomas and Tobias Stephan have masks that have a cage, but the helmet they use has a backplate like the modern goalie mask instead of being enclosed. (Yes, I'm a nerd.) Didn't Cloutier switch to a standard mask when he went to LA? Or did he switch back already? When he was traded to LA, they urged him to go to the traditional mask. However, we all saw how he performed with the new mask on, so they said "Alright, wear the old one!" He did, and as it turns out the mask wasn't his problem.
