Ryno returns to Sweden

Djurgården is building quite a Detroit Red Wings prospect colony. Frölunda decided to pass on him - which is unfortunate for me because I would've seen him play several times during the remainder of the season. Maybe last season left them with a bad impression. Ryno will likely get a lot of ice time in Djurgården and will hopefully help Djurgården to the playoffs. I really hate this, just because of this it's becoming more and more obvious I'll have to cheer for Djurgården if something happens to Frölunda's chance to win the SEL. Bleh.

does anyone know why he left for sweeden? was he not getting much icetime, cuz thats the only reason i can think of

Don't know. He has 3 goals 4 assists and is +3 in 12 games. I hope that his return to Sweden was made in consultation with Babcock and the rest of the coaching staff and management. I have no worries though - he'll be back...

No, I don't think you would have. Frölunda just has too many good wingers for him to get ice time there.

Yeah, he didn't exactly display a great attitude.

Is this our new thing? All of our prospects are going to keep going back to europe instead of learning the NA game? Ryno has alot of potential, would've rather have him stay.

Same here. A big kid like him really needs to learn how to throw his body around and he's not gonna learn that back in the SEL. Well too bad.

wow what a waste man whats up with these kids all returning

"He's got some assets,'' Holland said. "He's a project, don't know if he's an NHL player down the road.''

dont know if hes an nhl player ....... man whats with these kids not wanting to work their butts off to make it

Ryno's fellow countryman, forward Mattias Ritola, Detroit's fourth-round pick in 2005, is said to be extremely mature for his age and has no interest in going back to Sweden. Teams are allowed only 50 players under contract, so the Wings can't afford to let too many of their prospects head back to Europe

at least ritola looks like he wants it , he showed some nice stuff in the pre season lets hope he keeps at it........anyone know how many contracts we got ???

I pretty much banking on the fact that Ryno will be a lost prospect alongwith Grigs. if you want to be a wing. you do whatever it takes whatever the team asks of you and if it means staying in GR, then so be it. obviously he doesnt care about NA hockey as much as we'd like him to. so forget about him.

I must admit it’s a very discouraging sign.

Forward Johan Ryno (Grand Rapids, American Hockey League) was off to what appeared to be a good start to his North American career, but returned to Sweden this week citing both on- and off-ice discomfort.

"He might as well go back and hope he's a player at (age) 24, 25," Red Wings GM Ken Holland told redwingscorner.blogspot.com. "It's hard to make the NHL when you're 22, 23. We've agreed to go along with what the player and agent want."
