Rant From a Flames fan

Ok, those who know me from my posts know i'm not a troll as a matter of fact i'm a Wings fan second after a Flames but this game was facking brutal, Detroit can clutch, grab and interfere at will yet the Flames are called for sniffing on the Wings, I PVR'ed the game and i still can't find 3 of the Flames penaties. they don't call the old man on a knee on knee and where was the instigator penalty after Phaneuf destroyed Jiri. Lillypad goes after Phaneuf and no penalty?

I don't like the instigator rule but it is still there or at least i thought it was.

I swear the Wings had blowjob girls set up for the refs tonight...very frustrating

Have you seen any of the first 10 Wings games? Homer's phantom penalties were the cause of three goals disallowed, and keep in mind this is in a span of 10 or so games.

I didn't see the game tonight, so I can't say whether the refs were biased or not, but things usually balance out with how often the refs suck these days.

Besides, the Wings suck defensively on the powerplay, in case you hadn't noticed.

I didn't see the game tonight so I can't speak to that.

However I seem to have noticed the ref's favoring the home team in general lately. When the Wings were on the road the other night I remember a lot of phantom calls on them.

I could be wrong though. Either way the refs have been very inconsistent this season and it makes watching the games painful at times.

The Flames were hooking and holding today too. The refs were fine.

Instigator penaltys werent needed here. Phaneuf decked Hudler when it didnt matter anymore, Lilja challenged him to go and then they fought. No instigator nesscecary.

I'll agree that officiating has been poor, this season especially it seems. Though I haven't seen it clearly favor one team.

Usually it's pretty crappy both ways.

I think if you look at my post you'll see i'm not slamming the Wings,I'm slamming the idiots that make 150-200k a year to make a game fair. Calling Chelios an old man and using the term Lillypad is just a fun fan thing to say.

it must have been frustrating to watch as a Flames fan. We feel the same way when the Wings are paraded to the box 6-7 times in a period for (some) calls we don't agree with. It's about control, and players losing it when they are frustrated -- as the Flames were in the 2nd. They felt they outplayed the Wings in the 1st and yet the Wings were ahead and gaining momentum. Frustrating, for sure.

My favorite quip of the evening was on a Flames board (yes, I was lurking), where a poster was ranting against the penalty Phaneuf took for highsticking Lilja in the head. He said it was unfair to penalize Dion, when Lilja was just "adjusting his helmet." I think he was serious.

were you actually expecting the flames to come out on top in detroit? my personal belief with the calls in this game were mainly due to reputation the flames have in the NHL, when things aren't going the flames way they have to find some way to goon it up.

I was at the game and I thought there were bad calls both ways...It's hard to pay attention to who get more calls their way at the game but I agree that these borderline crap calls need to go. Let the teams play, may the best team win. Only call the blatant stuff, the trapping and clutching through neutral ice and the dangerous stuff.

Complaining about the reffing nowadays is about as productive as me trying to work off my beer gut while i eat a pizza and drink 4 bottles or red wine, you win some, you lose some these days as it pertains to reffing, I understand your frustration but if you want to go the whole season living your life through the refs than you had better go see a heart doctor sir!!

Being a Wings fan second. One would think you have seen several Red Wings games. But with that post, you obviously havent. Considering we get screwed hardcore by the refs on almost a nightly basis. It's been pathetic. The Red Wings are the 4th in the league when it comes to minutes shorthanded. And thats total bs. We have a veteran/disciplined squad for the most part. No way we should be shorthanded that many times. So after getting screwed over and over, forgive us if we're far from sympathetic about one nights officiating actually going against the other team for once. We outplayed the Flames, outclassed the Flames, and once again beat the Flames. Get over it. Thats just the way it is. And don't worry. We'll surely get screwed bigtime during our next game. NHL Refs= Bums.

well loo to their credit, watching the replay of that high sticking penalty on dion...it seems like he was slipping and his stick kind of tapped lilja on the helmet, and i think lilja embellished the penalty a little by putting his hand up to his face, and from the angle the ref was at, it was hard to tell, so he went with the immediate thought that lilja was hurt from the stick.

I dont think its quite like the calgary fans tell it, but we were very lucky to get away with that call, it should have hardly been a call and the flames should have been able to play out that PP. On the other hand i think the officiating tonight was pretty balanced.

Oh, I agree, Vip. I just loved the way he put it about Lilja "adjusting his helmet." You kind of have to re-adjust your headgear when a stick whacks you on top of the head from behind. Lilja was startled more than hurt, luckily.

I don't think DIon intended to do it, no way. But the fact is, you have to control your stick. His bad luck that Andreas just happened to be standing in his way when that stick went wildly swinging around on its own, I reckon.

I thought the officiating was OK and fairly balanced, better than some I've seen this season.

All I can say, Calgary Fan, Is HOMER. The guy gets hosed more then anyone. He gets called for goalie interferance five feet away from the goalie.

I also was at the game and there was some stupid calls. A trip in the first that was awful. But that is bettman hockey.

I was at the game and I thought there was a lot of bad penalties called both ways. The NHL is quickly becoming the NRL, I want them to control the clutching and grabbing. But as soon as anybody hits the ice and another player is around, the arm is in the air. Players are getting very good at their legs oddly giving out when they feel pressure.

Correct me if I'm wrong (with the NHL rule book) but the instigator penalty is not for that situation. Phaneuf blindsided Hudler(which is a problem in itself) and Lilja stood up for his teammate on that play. The instigator would come into play if on the next time Downey came onto the ice he picked a fight with Phaneuf. Phaneuf instigated that fight more then Lilja back trying to crush a player who was passing and looking behind him, which is something that needs to stop. I'm so glad most players want the instigator penalty removed and hopefully they will get it. Plays like that need to be handled the next time an enforcer steps out onto the ice. Same with Hartnell...what the hell was he trying to prove lining up a player on his knees completely defenseless.

Remove the instigator and next year is the year of the enforcer!

No. Jiri made the mistake of punching Dion the goon in the face. Not smart, when you're Jiri's size. At first I laughed at Hudler getting what he deserved but then I remembered the Flames goon it up when they lose regardless...
