skacore 2 Report post Posted December 7, 2007 First off I have nothing to do with these sites I'm just a Wings' fan outside of Detroit and I know the pain of missing a game.. I'm gonna give step by step instructions to hook it up, it's not too hard if you read my steps, it may seem like a long, complicated post but I really just buttered it up to make it fool proof (I hope), if there are any problems let me know in this thread and I'll reply tomorrow If anyone is interested in watching a livestream for tomorrow's game (and almost all games all year) I can hook you up with a good site I found. Recently my satellite has been getting zapped so I had to find an alternate to watch games. It's not too complicated but it does take a few minutes of your attention to get it set up. First, you need to download SopCast, SopCast is basically an online television that people can host their own feeds from their televisions so others can watch. Download SopCast here: http://www.sopcast.org/download/ Then you need to download another program called VLC Media Player, it's a small program that you need to run while SopCast is open and the game shows up on that rather than SopCast (I think it's just smoother and better overall), download that here: http://www.videolan.org OK so after you get both those downloaded, goto this site: http://forum.myp2p.eu/viewforum.php?id=1338 In their public forums look for the thread about the current day livestreams, example: "Sticky: NHL Today Dec 6 STREAMING by pkcable [ 1 2 3 … 12 ]" (they are stickied at the top) Go in there... then say it says "7:30 pm Carolina @ Tampa Bay TBGames " for example.... the "TBGames" thing is a link, so hover your mouse over it and right click, goto Properties, copy the address (sop://broker.sopcast.com:3912/33510) That address you just copied is your access to the game... open up the SopCast program, log in as anonymous (it has a default name/password, just click log in)... then at the top where you can enter text, paste the address (sop://broker.sopcast.com:3912/33510), then click the red arrow to the right of the text box. A small window will open up the left of SopCast that will buffer (load) the game. The game itself in that window is usually slow and not smooth so put that on mute and minimize it. Then you have to open the VLC Media Player, goto File (top left) and goto Open Network Stream, then select HTTP option, and type in 127.0.0.1:8902 as the URL. (if 8902 doesn't work, try port 8912). You MUST leave Sopcast running because closing Sopcast closes the stream so quick recap... 1. Get Wings game address off forums 2. Open sopcast, put in address, mute and minimize sopcast 3. Open VLC Media Player and enter that URL in HTTP options 4. A screen will open up in VLC Media Player and you can adjust it, it may be slow at first but it should improve after a couple minutes, some livestreams though are just fuzzy and bad sound quality, but its better than missing the game A tip to possibly speed up your livestream... obviously try to avoid having major applications running like a video game or music downloader, messengers are no big deal. Another way to increase the livestream is goto your Task Manager (press CTRL + ALT + DELETE just once) then under "Processes" tab, go SopCast.exe and VLC.exe, right click each of them, Set Priority to HIGH. Again... if anyone has problems just let me know what your having trouble with Go Wings
Cicada 4 Report post Posted December 7, 2007 (edited) it might also be worth mentioning that this is completely illegal and in copyright violation and you're using it at your own risk, etc, blah blah woof woof.. also it's often so laggy it's unwatchable personally i prefer ken kal and good ole nhl radio when i can't watch Edited December 7, 2007 by Cicada
akustyk 84 Report post Posted December 7, 2007 personally i prefer ken kal and good ole nhl radio when i can't watch have to disagree. I listened to Ken Kal for some 6-7 years over the internet, then got Sopcast. radio is huge but live video is when you feel the game. TV wins it hands down even a lagging TV (as if NHL live radio wasn't 1-2 minutes late usually)
auxlepli 17 Report post Posted December 7, 2007 Ken Kal and Paul Woods are great in my opinion. I don't feel like I'm missing anything listening to them.

larionov_8 12 Report post Posted December 7, 2007 I always wondered if there is some 'legitimate' way to watch hockey game on the internet. It would definitely save me money, because I shell out most of my cable bill just so I can watch some hockey. It makes me think that the league would be wise to regulate this online streaming so that they could make money from it, but perhaps that would hurt their overall television revenues. Anyone think the league will ever stream their games online legally? Or, is this something you think the television networks might branch into?

b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted December 7, 2007 they do.. it's called Center Ice Online but it's not available in europe due to their exclusive contract with NASN over here, which is why i'm stuck with radio feeds. that and the fact that because NHL Network loves the damn Wings so much, I fork out $140 for Center Ice that only plays %70 of the damn games. Nothing is more frustrating than when there is 3 days between games and then, last minute, the game I've been excited and anticipating turns out to be Blacked Out for some channel that only works for DirecTV customers in my area. That should not constitute the black out..... god I get furious just thinking about it....
larionov_8 12 Report post Posted December 7, 2007 Ha....tough break. Would I be right to assume that Centre Ice Online is a similar cost to the television version?
Textbook 1 Report post Posted December 8, 2007 I cap and upload Wings games on www.nhltorrents.co.uk day after the game. Not exactly legal, but good if you miss a game.
WendelClark 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2007 so now that you have given out all the info, their server is laggin and has too many connections..... lol well ok i cant blame it on you but im mad right now because thier forums are down and i cant get the link to the game tonite anyone mind posting tonites link here incase their forum doesnt come back up anytime soon thx btw great guide, and seems like all should be able to follow it i do this exact same thing for football as well (GO PACK!) and typically not only is vlc smoother in playback, but it renders the same feed ahead of what other players can. what this means is that vlc will be closer to 'realtime' than sopcast would be for the ones that are interested

uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted December 8, 2007 dont worry people. its illegal to stream it, but not to watch the stream
akustyk 84 Report post Posted December 8, 2007 dont worry people. its illegal to stream it, but not to watch the stream not neccesarilly. the legality of watching this stream may depend on the local law.
Cicada 4 Report post Posted December 8, 2007 dont worry people. its illegal to stream it, but not to watch the stream the way sopcast works is a rebroadcaster...so if you're watching it, you're also streaming it to someone else.. hence technically you're breaking the law, the same way that if you download a torrent, you're also uploading it to other users. skacore 2 Report post Posted December 10, 2007 Wow, great job. Perfect directions, perfect results. Thanks a lot man. It's a great help to a guy who lives at a house without cable. no problem man, good to hear you got it working, and Flogging Molly is the s*** by the way, I'm aware this may not be 100% legal so I guess those worried about that have already taken note, but I couldn't care less, half the things we do on the internet isn't technically legal ... ironically I'm only using SopCast because my ILLEGAL satellite has been getting zapped a lot lately, figures eh
uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted December 10, 2007 Well if the NHL had any sort of decent showing over here (like the NFL and even the MLB has) then maybe I wouldnt watch their shiz for free at no profit to them. And yes I am subscribed to NASN, just wings games are on there like once a month.
