Getting autographs in Colorado

I live in Kansas, so getting to a game is rare for me, but as long as the snow stays light over the next couple days, I'm planning to drive to Denver for my first game since leaving Arizona a couple years ago. It'll be a fun roadtrip no matter what, but I'm looking to make it a little more memorable by getting some Wings autographs while I'm there.

Does anybody have any experience tracking down players for autographs at the Pepsi Center in Denver, or around town after the game? Google sent me to an Avalanche message board that wasn't too encouraging- they say it's pretty hard to get close to players from the visiting team. But LGWers are much better people, so I'll appeal to you- can fans wait by the entrance/exit to the arena that the Wings will use? Is there a place to catch them inside the arena? Staking out the team hotel is a little creepy, if you ask me, but it wouldn't hurt to have that information in my back pocket, of anyone can supply it.

Any and all pointers are greatly appreciated!

Not too sure about after the game but for the past few years I know they have occasionally practicing at the Sun Microcenter Ice Rink in Broomfield the day of the game. That could be a possibility since the Nuggets are playing the night before at the Pepsi Center.

Enjoy the game, I will be sitting lower level, center Ice celebrating my anniversary with my wife. If you want a good steak while in town, I recommend the Chop House. It's a few blocks from the Pepsi Center (right next to Coors field). Stay away from the resturants accross from the Pepsi Center for dinner, not very good.

We moved to Arizona two years ago but I can tell you how it was before. The team stayed at the Westin in Westminster, take the 60 towards Boulder from I-25 and you'll find it. They skated before the game at the Sun Micro Systems Rink right next door. We had the best luck getting signatures there. Definitely go to the Chop House after the game, many of the visiting teams go there to eat after.

It's HWY 36 (Boulder Turnpike) not 60. Get off at 104th and you can't miss it. When did they move from the Westin Downtown to the Westminster location?

As I said in the previous post we moved 2 years ago, so sorry for the incorrect Highway name. As far as moving from the Downtown location I don't know. They stayed in Westminster when we lived in Denver. If you have better info please post it for this person.

Beside the 60 and 36 you had better info then I did. hahaha I was about going to tell him to try the Downtown Westin. I know when teams come in to play the Broncos they stay at the Westminster Westin, so it makes since they would be stay there too.

Thanks for the tips so far.

How late would the game-day skate be wrapping up? I'll be heading up to Boulder when I get into the area anyway, but I'm worried I'll be too late to catch them there. Might just have to stake out the bus or go have a nice meal.

Afraid I don't recall scheduling but you could call the Sun Micro Rink and ask. In the past they told us when we called. Worth a shot.

I skate there and generally teams that do visit have their practice mid morning. Check www.icecentre.com I'm bummed that Zets and Homer won't be there.

Well, I called the Ice Centre and was told that the Wings were not doing their skate there that day. I got into town a little later than I had hoped to because I was pressed into service to pick up my host at the airport. I didn't try to catch the team anywhere else, so my mission was incomplete and at the very east I can't provide any up to date information for the next game, but I may try again then.
