The irate one

My friends and I couldn't believe our eyes and busted out laughing at Wayne's little temper tantrum after Dats third period game winning goal. We joked that it would probably appear as a re-dubbed, re-mixed, or re-edited internet phenom in a matter of hours.

Does anyone have a link to a video of "the irate one" losing his temper? I kinda feel sorry for the guy, but I can't help but laugh!

Also, any thoughts about Wayne's little blow up?

I did think that it was funny watching him lose his temper last night. I do feel bad for him because i just don't think that he is coach material. He was a great player and was so much damn fun to watch back in the day. But his team has strugled and doesn't seem to be getting much better. It must be kind of tough.

why seems like a great guy, my friends parents met him in AZ and said he was such an approachable person, after that I started liking him, considering the 2nd best player of all time is down to earth is great. Plus the Yotes really seem like a good up and coming team

Wayne might just be a swell guy and all, and no doubt the great one when it comes to players but the guy cannot coach and everyone seems to notice it except him. Good player does not = great coach. If he truly cared about his team, he would step down. He is making an ass of himself at this point.

You definitely didn't need lip reading skills for that little tirade.

Poor Wayne - want some cheese to go with your whine?

Of course he's not the first person to cuss up a blue streak after Pasha makes the opposition pay. And he won't be the last, I'm sure.

As I watched the game, a friend and I discussed the pros and cons of what I'll call "emotional coaching". Basically it's when a head coach has just as much, if not more emotion than the players. This was we witnessed last night. The Wings score a go ahead goal and Wayne gets pissed and starts screaming. Mind you he isn't yelling at the refs for a missed call or the wings for a dirty play, he's yelling at his own guys. I think such a negative vibe from a coach only spreads negativity. When this happens, people start playing to not lose instead of playing to win. And if you're not playing to win you must be playing to lose.

Emotional players are needed in hockey as in every sport. The players that play with their hearts on they're sleeve are usually the players we all love (with the exception of Lidstrom).

But coaches are not players and as such must rise above emotion.

This is what I love about Mike Babcock. If the role was reversed and the wings had just gone down a goal, Babcock shows little to no emotion. He gathers the players around and comes up with a game plan to actually win the game.

Maybe if Wayne would offer more than "Play better" at the top of his lungs his team might win more. If they won more maybe he wouldn't have to scream as much.

Just a thought

I am going to have to disagree. I think the problem lies not with Wayne but with the players on the ice. The coyotes are actually turning their game around and seem to be putting together a team that can work together, they are just struggling to win at home for some reason. I believe they will keep turning it around.

The whole deal of wayne being a bad coach blah blah is overplayed and anyone still thinking that probably has 0 patience for coaches and does not want to give them a chance to prove themselves. Give him a couple more years and the yotes might actually be something. They have plenty of young talent and with Bryzgalov in net now, they can continue to move forward

It's not overplayed. He's not a good coach. From what I've seen he can't keep up or adapt, he can't inspire his players, and he's not very good at coming up with an overall game plan. They have some talent on that team, and it IS starting, ever so gradually, to turn around for Phoenix, at least slightly, but little of that can be attributed to Wayne. He's been coach for what...three years now? And he has nothing to show for it. Even coaches destined for mediocrity have shown more with what they're given in their first three years.

I see your point, i guess arguing this is pointless, we will just have to see what happens

This is news? When was the last time you guys paid attention to Wayne when we play the Yotes? That was probably the 5th or 6th time hes had a little temper tantrum like that. And I have to say I love it. It makes him look like an ass and on top of it, for some reason he loves to use the phrase "f*** me".

how many losing seasons should we give the "great" one? any other coach would be out already vip and u know it. I seem to remember that one game last season where we beat them like 5-2 or something like that and he was crying saying that we were running up the score on them??? yeah great coach.

That was funny. But if you watched the leafs game before the Wings game, Nik Antropov beating up his stick on the bench was better.

I disagree. From a players standpoint, I prefer an emotional coach. I want to know that he is in the game with us. That the losses hurt him just as much as they do me. Showing more passion for the game is never a bad thing. If anything, that would make me play harder for the coach knowing he is on board with us.
