selanne looking for a February comeback

I hate guys who sit out half a season and then decide that they do want to come back and play. I don't think that the Ducks or any ozganization should allow him back this year. Make him sit the rest of the season and then he could play a full season next year.

Pure bushleague crap.

Yeah, I actually like Selanne, sucks he is Busch leaguing with the Ducks just to come back and hopefully make the playoffs... man the Ducks are a sad organization....

Wouldn't signing for the minimum cause a ruckus within the players union ?

I think that there could be some minor hickups, nothing too major but its one of those single incidences which cause some contract negotiating problems. Though everyone relizes this a single-player charity, I don't see much happening, not like when a player signs for much less giving a GM right to say "you aren't as good as so and so, so you will make even less"

Still sucks, the Ducks are a joke this year, literally.

He shouldn't do it. He could retire after winning SC, now he will retire afer unsuccessful playoffs.

What playoffs? If the season were over today, the Ducks wouldn't even make the playoffs. They have more points that some of the bottom dwellers but they have played more games. If you take the point percentage (number of points divided by the number of available points, they have a 0.547 "winning percentage" and are on pace for a 90 point season. The number 8 team would be Colorado with ).563 and 92 points.

They are out but it is close. All this assumes that nothing changes with any of the other teams.

Incidently, also out are Columbus (88 pts), Nashville and Chicago (both with 84). St. Louis would be #7 with 93.

We would play the Avs in the first round.

It would be great to have both Neids and Selanne to return to the Duckies only to have them not even make the playoffs. That, IMO would be justice.

yeah, i think this actually quaifies as lame, but i guess we all knew it was coming ... on the bright side this also means they are about out of "retired" players to bring back to try to help them, unless of course they try to poach from another team ... maybe gretzky's tired of coaching ...

The thing that makes me suspicious of a return is the fact that the Ducks dealt McDonald. You would think Burke would've dumped salary in another way if he knew in the slightest that Selanne would be coming back. If you take Selanne's return into account, it makes the McDonald for Weight deal look that much more lopsided. The two of them were money together.

Oh, and we'll take Markov back now. Thanks.

With him in the lineup, they're the best team in the league on paper, bar none. They already have the best defense in the league. Yeah, I know they've sucked this year, but no Wings fan in their right mind can tell me that you wouldn't be apprehensive about us facing them in the 1st round of the playoffs which might very well happen. I know championships aren't won on paper, but this team has already proven that it can win a Cup, so this isn't good news for the rest of the West.

The thing is that Selanne is a UFA, whereas Niedermayer was under contract. He has no obligations to anybody.

And I sure as hell would want Detroit to allow him back if he wanted to play for the Wings. He'd be a perfect addition to the team for the playoff run.

As for the Ducks not making the playoffs, they've already been playing better with Niedermayer back. If Selanne returns and/or they find some other offensive help, they'd almost certainly make the postseason.

nhl.com has them in 7th seed if playoffs started today they are only 3 pts behind the division leaders  anyways. with the way defensively they have been playing i think the ducks have a GREAT chance of making playoffs... they have a 1.60 GAA since scotty returned as of a day before the hawks game and they are winning games now they where on a 4 game win streak but then lost 2 and now on 2 win streak. And later on when teemu returns they will be even more of a threat. this is my opinion as a ducks fan so you can take it how ever you want. .

Well, I think Ducks will clinch division title and we'll meet them again in the conference finals.

i hope they dont make the playoffs, but i think they will but i dont know how their players like niedemeyer and selane will last because of the lack of conditioning.

i agree with someones post above me, lets sign markov

I wouldnt want to play them in the 1st round, they are built for a grinding playoff series when the refs are known for not enforcing the rules.

Sign for minimum?!

A recent 94 point getter signing for that? I realize he's coming back pretty much for the playoffs (If the ducks make it :P)... But minimum? He's worth maybe over 6M a season, with the playoffs being the most important part, that should be cut in half.
