How about Forsberg?

Rate this topic

I definitely think we should sign Forsberg. Not just sign him, but lock him up for at least two years and pay him the big bucks that he deserves. He's probably the best player in the history of the

OK I can't do this anymore. He'll never play another game in the NHL, trust me. We can stop worrying about this now.

I agree 100 %.

The last time the dude put his skates on, he couldn't skate 2 feet..

I think it's very very unlikely he will play pro hockey again and if so, not in the NHL... and if so, not Detroit.

The chances are too great.

I think the number one reason I want Forsberg here is so I can shut up the Avs fans (especially my brothers). When I tell them there is a possibility we'll sign him, they're always like "no way, he hates the Wings. he's still an Av at heart". No better way to shut them up by him signing.

... have I made myself clear?

Actually no, had you said no and then given a reason then yes you would have made it clear. However posts like this and other don't do anything but show you have some sort of issue with Forsberg. What it is I have no idea, maybe you just don't like him, maybe he kicked your dog, maybe he stole your G/f, maybe you stole his G/f. But your answer wasn't clear!

Hey you asked!

...ok lets think about this in a non-bias non-negative point of view...

...the Wings could use a threat on the second line, they could use some veteren help come playoff time. Adding a legit top 6 guy would only help them...

...guys we've all discussed: Fedorov, Hossa, Sundin, and Forsberg. Now, lets look at it this way; When (and if) Forsberg is healthy and effective, there aren't many players better than him, escpecially come playoffs. The first three listed players would cost us something in exchange, Forsberg would cost us nothing in exchange (so there will be noone scolding Holland for trading away Mathias (insert player whom may be traded.)) He would have to agree to sign an incentive laden contract involving performance or number of games played, etc...

...Now, if he proves he can play effectly, signs a relatively small contract and stays healthy, I would rather rent him than Hossa or Sundin (and give up some future for 3 months of use, even if it brought us a Cup.) I have no doubt Fedorov will be back, either at the deadline or as a UFA. Columbus doesn't want him, they are scratching him for "Some kind of Illness" which basically means (for the most part) they are getting ready to move on without him and are giving his icetime to the players who are going to be there from here on out....

...so IMO, siging Forsberg is a no brainer as long as he can play. He will easily move onto the number 2 line and playing with either Zetterberg, Datsyuk or Fillpula for that matter, will do nothing but make the signing look like a Nobel Prize winning piece of literature...

...and we can stop all this "He hates Detroit" and "we hate Forsberg" so he would never sign here or we wouldn't want him here. We've all seen the video of Chris Chelios saying how he hated Detroit so much that he'd never sign here or accept a trade, he even cried the day he was traded here and was quoted asking why did it have to be Detroit that was interested, yet, he accepted the trade here and the rest is history. Oh, and BTW, we all hated him just about as much as Lemeiux and now look at us. If Forsberg wants to win a Cup, he has two options in my book, Detroit or Ottawa. There may be other teams who have a chance to win, but the two favorites have to be Detroit and Ottawa, so obviously those should be his first two choices, Detroit having the edge because of the Swedish connection, if he signs anywhere else but Detroit or Ottawa, he may as well stay retired, because anywhere else he would be relied upon to be "The Man" and too much would be expected of him...

...sign him Kenny, you'd be stupid not to roll those dice...

Difference there is that Bertuzzi has a future ahead of him. Signing Forsberg would only take away ice time from young players who are developing well and need to be trusted in important situations. Adding a guy like Forsberg could make some of our second- and third-line guys try less because they'd think they could sit back and rely on the vets. It would also cost us cap money that we shouldn't waste on washed-up injury prone guys. If all of that isn't enough, think about how much his presence on the team could mess up our chemistry. He's a terrible person, and now he's a terrible player too. There's no reason to even consider signing him.

I'd like some light shed on this "he's a terrible person" comment. It sounds like total BS to me.

...why is he a terrible person, because he played for the AVES? He wouldn't take away from any young players icetime, he would prolly bump Sammy down to the third line and that would just bump Drake out or Kopecky will become the 13th forward along with Downey...

...he is far from washed up, and as it looks, our #1 guy is injury prone as well, so should we not play him when he gets healthy? Should we not resign him when he is a UFA in 2009 because he misses 20 games a year with a back injury? Oh yeah, BTW, Steve Yzerman was injury prone as well and some would say he was washed up because he couldn't score 50 goals anymore, but you know what, he was still effective and showed up huge when it counted...

...Forsberg would bring the experience and playoff scoring we lacked last season, Fedorov would also help in that aspect. Need we say it again, just 1, 1! goal on the 5 on 3 against Anaheim and Neidermayer's goal means nothing and we go on to beat Ottawa and hoist the Cup. Forsberg could have scored that one goal...

Forsberg was never a TRULY hated guy on the Avs. We hated playing against him because when he was on he could control the game and hand us our asses. Plus, he was ALWAYS scoring OT goals.

He's nowhere in Foote, Roy, or Lemieux territory as players on the Avs I wished would get a puck in the face. But there were times when I wished he would fall awkwardly into the boards, mostly when the game was tied or before an elimination game.

I'm all for it... at the right price. Anything over $3.5 and I'll pass. Unless he gets an OK from a doc and there are LOTS of incentives based on performance, then 4.5 is OK.

Well, he's likely to have beaten women he was romantically linked with and I think that he never picks up the tab when he goes to dinner with teammates. From what I've been able to find out, he also is interested in child pornography. I don't know if you think that makes him a terrible person, but if it doesn't that's fine.

I'd be careful.

Thank you for your legal insight, but I doubt Forsberg would be able to win a case based on what someone wrote on an internet fan site. ;)

lol I know, I just felt I had to point out that it isn't nice going around the interweb saying that people are into child porn.

It's Grigorenko, notice the number 21.

As for the picture, did you have to Photoshop in the Wings playing the Leafs, too?

Actually, it looks like the "1" is photoshopped on there. The picture was formerly of Aaron Downey during the preseason if I remember correctly.
