I remember reading the first part of that story.

As far as the second part...wow...

Wow! I remember reading that article when it first hit. I felt so horrible for that little boy.

If there's such a thing as Karma I imagine that kids dad is going to get it 1000 fold.

That is absolutely crazy!!
Some people!

That poor kid!

I am sure you know the start of the story, Yzerman went out of his way to help a little boy that he thought was dying/suffering from two terrible illnesses.

The point to this story is that the father was lying the whole time. The son is apparently healthy and the man has been duping Yzerman and the Wings the whole time. To the point that he even had Stevie's cell phone. A phone number that shows up blocked when Yzerman calls a wing's personnel which tells you he gave his number out. The guy actually had the balls to ask Stevie to take him and his son to Stevie's cottage in Toronto.

Any male has the required equipment to be a father, it takes something else to be a "Dad"!!!

wow, what a story. I used to say to myself when watching those "make-a-wish" stories on ESPN, what if someone just totally duped them to be able to meet their favorite athletes. Crazy it happened to Yzerman. However something really bothered me at the end of the article.

Yzerman- "Braxton is a nice young boy who seems to have been manipulated. I hope he can realize he did something wrong. It's not too late for him."

I think the fact that Yzerman holds fault toward the young boy is way too harsh and a bit disheartening. The kid was 11 and completely manipulated by his father. He thought he actually had cancer! The person solely responsible is the father.

Shanahanman,
I wonder what was the question that was asked in order to get that response because that seems uncharacteristic of Stevie.
I wonder if he was talking about the Father and said Braxton is a wonderful boy. End of thought, It's not too late.... referring to the father?

You know people give athletes s*** for not giving enough back to the little people, but you know what, I bet there are a ton of people out there that do this to get a stick or an autograph, that just never take it this far.
If you did something like what Yzerman did and then got burnt, I would think it would make you a little less likely to do it again, I know I would.

That whole thing is sad, disheartening and makes me wonder if there are any values left in this world. I'm glad Stevie is taking the high road on this one.

To be fair to Steve regarding that last bit, we didn't know the context of the question asked.

It makes me sad that people like Braxton's father exist in this world. What makes this world bearable are people like Stevie who says that if anything he wants to do more to reach out.

It's amazing how much clarity comes when you care more about the Red Wings than any individual player.

"They are the best team in the world. They are a team that can just take over when they want to," Chicago's Patrick Kane said (of the Detroit Red Wings).

Yzerman has every right to say what he wants to say. Obviously he still cares about the little boy or he probably would decline to talk about this whole situation and possibly take it to court. The kid had to have known eventually that he had been telling lies after his father manipulated him into it, and it is not his fault but he should have known what his father was doing and told Yzerman the truth before the situation escalated to the point where it is today. mad.gif

Think for yourself. Question authority. Throughout human history as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are or where we are going in this ocean of chance, it has been the authorities, the political, the religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open mindedness, chaotic, confused vulnerability to inform yourself.
