Guest paveldatsukthenextsavard Report post Posted February 2, 2008 Are there any trophies you'd like to see added to the ones awarded at the end of the season? What would they be for? I'd add The Wayne Gretzky Award for who ever gets the most assists in the league, to recognize the good set-up men that often don't get enough credit. Maybe the Nick Lidstrom indispensable player award for the highets time on ice per game.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 I've said this before but I think it would be awesome to have some sort of trophy go to the team with the best crowd. If that doesn't put fans in the seats I don't know what will
Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 I would add a defensive award. It would be for "Best Offensive Defenseman" call it the Bobby Orr Award. It would clear up a lot of controversy for fans who think Niedermayer is a better D-man than Lids. The Norris would be best defensive defenseman. I would also have awards voted by the players for "Best Passer", "Best Stickhandler", and "Best Penalty Killer"
Rice 42 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 If there is a best defenseman award, shouldn't there be a best forward award? It would clear up the overlap between the Hart and Ross and probably enable deserving players like Lidstrom to win MVP.
StaticWithABeat 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 I think the NHL has enough awards...although I wouldn't mind seeing the Keith Primeau Memorial Trophy, for the player who spends the most time falling down over the course of a season.
Sevumar 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 What about a trophy recognizing someone like Draper, who is arguably the best face-off man in the league, but whose skill is not reflected in the common statistics? There isn't really a way to measure how much someone contributes to the penalty kill or how often he wins important face-offs for his team.
lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 (edited) how about the Langer, awarded to the player who displays the least amount of effort and heart in proportion to their salary ... Edited February 2, 2008 by lets go pavel

There isn't really a way to measure how much someone contributes to the penalty kill or how often he wins important face-offs for his team. Yanic Perreault is the best face off man in the league, and has been since the retirement of Ron Francis. And as every faceoff is important, here's how to measure who wins them. You do have to go to the second page to get past all the one-off guys who have taken a handful of faceoffs and won more than 65%. HenrikRules40 14 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 the crosby ... awarded to sidney crosby every year so the league will have another opportunity to promote him I can just see it now... Gary Bettman: And this year's Crosby trophy is awarded to...*drumroll*...Sidney Crosby!!! Sid: Me? Really? Wow. I wasn't expecting this at all. It's just an honor to be nominated. Gary Bettman: Can I kiss you?
Zion 93 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 I think the NHL has enough awards...although I wouldn't mind seeing the Keith Primeau Memorial Trophy, for the player who spends the most time falling down over the course of a season. Did Keith Primeau die? Anyone who thinks Scott Neidermayer is a better defenseman than Nicklas Lidstrom has probably only watched hockey for about a year and a half. I respect his accomplishments, and think he is possibly the best skater in the league, but he is nowhere near as good as Lids on defense. Not even close. Not even in the slightest. Not one bit. b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 the crosby ... awarded to sidney crosby every year so the league will have another opportunity to promote him haha THANK YOU! I loved the stream of Boos that came down for Bettman at the ASG, and he just shrugged like "Thats my mama!" I wonder how often Bettman and Crosby meet for dinner, get a little too drunk on Boons Farm and seltzer, and find themselves kissing and then awkwardly discussing how its no big deal, but they should keep in on the DL
GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 Donnybrook Trophey - Awarded to player with most fights in a season A best enforcer award would be great. Because of his win/loss record, I'd give it to Lija this year. Imagine if Sid won the Byng and the Crosby....how cool would that be? A who's on first routine in the making. "So that Byng guy won the Crosby too?" "No, that was Sidney." "Who won the Byng then?" "Crosby!" Would Crosby have to sing at the award ceremony?
RedFX 48 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 (edited) The Jiri Hudler Trophy; awarded to the player mentioned in the most trade rumors. The Mikael Samuelsson Award; awarded to the player who appears as the mascot on the most fan sites. The Chris Simon Trophy; awarded to the player suspended the most during the regular season The Kopecky Trophy; awarded to the player who starts the biggest fight amongst fans regarding whether or not said player will ever make it past the 3rd line. The George Parros Trophy; awarded to the player who you are most stunned to hear went to an ivy league school The Corey Perry Trophy; awarded to the NHL power forward you could probably beat up in real life The Aaron Downey Trophy; awarded to the player who everyone loves, but would suck if he didn't fight and finally.... The Chris Pronger Trophy; awarded to the player who can eat the most live puppies in under a minute Edited February 3, 2008 by RedFX

daniel1 32 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 As much as it pains me to admit it; Gretzky should have an award for most assists named after him and given out yearly. We have the Rocket Richard trophy for goals, it's about time we had the Gretzky for assists. Even if Gretzky had never scored even one goal in his career, he would STILL be the NHL all time points leader. I never liked him and always thought he was a whiny *****, but he could sure pass the puck. I would like to see the Yzerman award for leadership given out at the end of each season as well. I think it could be for leadership on AND off the ice for his team even taking into account what that player does in the community too. Yzerman epitomized class; on and off the ice. Players should be recognized for this in an age where the Simons, Emerys and Averys make too many headlines while the positive leaders and role models go unnoticed far too often.
