datsyukismyfriend 4 Report post Posted February 17, 2008 If you didn't see the game, maybe you shouldn't make comments like you did. The Wings looked fine today and gave up a lone tough rebound goal. If the situation had been reversed people on LGW would be praising them for their solid defensive play and how things are coming around. God I hate this site when the Wing aren't winning. Edit: Spelling thanks for the advice. it's very helpful.

EuroTwinLove40 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2008 thanks for the advice. it's very helpful. Seriously though, the game wasn't as ridiculous as you made it sound. Did they play better than they did on Friday? Absolutely. Could they have played better? ABSOLUTELY. But this game was a huge step forward from the games they played last week. If you would've watched it I'm sure you'd probably think a little differently. They just couldn't buy a goal to save their lives.

They just couldn't buy a goal to save their lives. They played very well against a good Dallas team and lost 1-0. They had several very good chances to win but Turco came up big. Sure it wasn't a fantastic outing but they only gave up 1 goal and Howard was outstanding. Good game and a huge step forward.
datsyukismyfriend 4 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) :rotflmao: Stats.....they tell everything.......don't they? a six game losing streak says a hell of a lot. i know how people like to get on their high horse at the first sniff of pessimism on this site, so let's just agree that you are right. you're obviously very smart and your opinion is more important than mine. so let's just agree on that and leave each other alone, okay? from my experience there are two different kinds of posters. people who criticize the team and people who criticize other posters. the wings have lost six in a row. people are bound to be pissed off. if you hate this site, as you say, when the wings lose, go elsewhere when the wings lose. until then, leave me alone. better yet: if you don't like what i have to say. put me on ignore. Does that make the Red Wings win the next game? I'm not saying you don't have a right to be frustrated, but I don't see the purpose in just chewing a team out without reasoning other than checking the NHL.com stat tracker. puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 hi! I watched the game at my friend's house today. I thought the Wings put forth a better effort that I have seen in some time now, but not enough. Just too little (way) too late (much) again. Turco finally "beat" the Wings. Sort of. Not-the-Wings, is more like it. Good-ish things: 1. They looked less discombobulated than they have in the last two or three games. 2. Jimmy Howard was excellent in my opinion. It could easily have been 5 or 6 to nothing, the lone goal of the game that got past him wasn't on Jimmy. It was Lilja... oh, dear. 3. I didn't spend a whole lotta money and time to go to Dallas for this one. Sorry, Wings. Bad things: 1. It's not like they want to lose, this has to be frustration for the Wings, too. But zero goals is not a good thing. 2. We lost. Stars wanted this one and they played better than the Wings. *Duh* statement, but true. The Wings showed up with about 2:45 seconds remaining in the game... that simply won't do, will it? I expect a better effort (baby-steps!!) tomorrow vs. the Avs. If I were Babs (and I am not) I would put Ozzie in goal. Let him have a crack at saving the Wings' behinds for them, the way Howie did today. Third star goes to Jimmy. Well deserved.
Wingfan191 2 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 I guarantee that if Kopecky would've slid that goal in, we would've won this game 2-0. The only way we're gonna break out of this slump is if we score first and early. In fact, I'd rather it be a fluke goal off 2 guys skates and in because whenever we score one of those coming off a losing streak, we win that game and everything seems to go back to normal. We're just not getting the breaks recently. And to think it all started with a 4 goal collapse against the Kings 2 weeks ago. I think if we had won that game we wouldn't even be in this situation now. But I will say this, if we lose to the Avs tomorrow, expect some new Wings on the team by Friday. There's no way in hell Holland and the coaching staff should put up with a 7 game losing streak. That's just ridiculous.
wings_fanatic 677 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Guys come on... the majority of you are wings fans... and, if you truly are, how about you stop whining... no amount of whining will take things back. How about you look, realistically, at what happend today... 1) The defense was much better all game 2) Goaltending was solid 3) The offence lines were much better (at both offence and back-checking) And now, the things wings need to improve on: 1) I'm sorry, but I truly believe we need our top line (dats-Z, Homer) together all the time because no one else can truly shut them out all game (and at the end when they were finally put back together, they dominated a few plays). So back together I think they should and will go 2)Powerplay: wings had a little trouble getting into the zone and set up... and are still trying to be a little too fancy with the puck... (except for Sammy) SHOOT the PUCK! But, keep in mind, the powerplay will be better when Kronners and Rafi return (Rafi tomroorw; Kronner's Friday) 3) I think the Wings need to work a little more on clogging up the neutral zone like they did so well all season, which will help limit shots from the other team, and alow them to go back to playing their puck possession 4) Injuries have hurt wings, but with most guys returning this week, we will be alright... but this tells us some younger guys NEED to do a better job... See, you do not have to rag on the wings, they know their pros and cons.... and all we need to do is identify them too, not all of a sudden hate them.... man wings fans are spoiled.... Anyways... tomororw Wings will win... their defense was fixed today, and tomororw their offence will be fixed... GO WINGS!

I'm not saying you don't have a right to be frustrated, but I don't see the purpose in just chewing a team out without reasoning other than checking the NHL.com stat tracker. first of all, yes it does make the wings win the next game. (doesn't seem so foolish now, does it?) secondly, actually it does make me feel better to vent. i'll be the first to admit that frustration will cloud vision a bit. it doesn't mean that my posts have no merit, however. i do feel that when teams forecheck hard and keep the wings to the outside they don't have much of an answer. i sincerely think that. i also think the wings need to adapt a bit and not play puck possession exclusively. i have doubts about a deep playoff run with our style and our roster. i do. that's just how i think. whether i'm wrong or not is debatable, and i love to debate if you want to. i just don't like people breathing down my neck because i posted a BS post. thirdly, i'm a pessimist. i just am. i tend to see things glass half full. i post accordingly. it hasn't changed much in 28 years, i doubt it will. so if pessimists bother you, absolutely put my posts on the not-to-read list, because lot's of them will be glass-half-full. lastly, i have reasoning. and it was the espn.com stat tracker. puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Everyone on the network TV crew was too nice to mention, this was just the second time Turco's ever won v. the Wings (version 1.0, Not-the-Wings). 2-9-5 career. Turco played his butt off today, I will admit -- he wanted this one and it showed. He got a few lucky bounces, too, but he was solid. Too bad our guys don't drive to the net the way the Stars did today, huh? I expect better from them tomorrow night, but don't think they will be OK until Kronner and Raffi are back, too. Cleary, it goes without saying they miss him. I won't be surprised to see him back before the playoffs with a full face cage on. I hope. Anyway, I wish we'd won, but I was OK with this game, given how it's been lately. They did look better late in the game. Kudos to Howie. He was great today, sure didn't look 23 years old, which bodes well for his career with the Wings. Did you all catch the comment from the announcers about how many Wings were drafted by Detroit, on the current squad. 14? Is that right?
