as bummed as i was that lids got knocked out of the game, i really enjoyed watching meech play more. I was impressed with his work on the powerplay, especially his slapshot from the point. obviously i hope lids is fine and is back asap; that said, i think meech has some real potential.

i haven't seen meech enough to really have made up my mind on meech. like i said, i liked what i saw from him tonight.

quincy was pretty solid in the playoffs last year. but he was way out of position on that goal dallas scored on sunday so that pissed me off.

meech can shoot the puck 500 times better than samuelson can from what i saw today. why the f*** does sammy stay on the point? oh yea, because hes a right hand shot.....makes so much ******* sence.

Meech has a nice heavy shot.. Something that Lebda lacks severely.

I like meech as our reserve d-man, hopefully when everyone is healthy he can peak his head in, taking time off of Mr.Turnover and Mr.Iskatefastbutdontnomuchelse.

Kid is coming around. He'll be good trade bait, maybe next year. He's still too small, but perhaps another team can trade for a puck-moving defenseman.

Looks like a mini-Lebda.

And Lebs is small enough.

Umm so what were your thoughts on Darius Kasparitas when he entered the league, or rather when you saw him play because he is listed at the same height as Meech, yes he out weighs Meech but give the get a few years and a dozen or so Donuts.

I would have to assume you meant Lilja and Lebda, which makes me think you are just ragging on people because last night with the absence of Lids, Ralf, and Kronwall this team was without its numbers 1, 2, 3 d-men. That is slightly important so I will repeat, they were with out d-men number ONE, TWO, and THREE. Included in that is a one of a kind d-man the likes that have not been seen in decades, one is a perennial all star, and the other is the number 3 (sorry Kronner that was all I could come up with). The d helped Ozzie to a shut out. Did they make mistakes yes, there is only one Nick Lidstrom and even he has been mistake prone lately.

But Ozzie saved there asses a couple of times and they helped out. That D is depleted, Meech Played more minutes than he has all year combined (exaggeration) and the team had a shutout, yet you are going to complain that the D sucks.

Edit: You didn't say they suck, I inferred that you meant that from their nicknames.

I am befuddled by the expectations of some fans!

In case you missed it Lilja and Lebda are the number 5-6 d-men when this team is healthy. For them to log big minutes, is like Kopecky trying to fill in for Filpula bad situation for the team, but if the team gets the W, let alone the shut out then the player(s) in bigger roles, A) did their job, B) are not horrible players, they are actually good enough to be in the NHL.

Leave the roster configuration and moves to Babs and Holland thank you very much!

Well it's good to see the kids getting comfortable with bigger roles. It's good that this happens now and not suddenly during the playoffs. But a trade for a depth veteran defenseman is still, in my opinion at least, necessary.

In Response To Your Post

By no means did i mean what i said based on 1 game. Im saying it over the period of the year.

Believe me, i understand that things are alot harder when your missing your top 3 dmen, and not just any top 3.. probaly 3 of the best tbh.

It was a general statement, saying Lilja is a turnover machine and Lebda has spectacular skating ability, But he does nothing else good at all..

I am not trying to start a flame war or call you out (if you don't take it that way great, but some here are sensitive):

Had one of you teachers ever told you that when you are taking a True or False test if things are written as absolute truths they are usually False. Statements like "Always sucks".

So when you say that Lebda adds nothing but his skating ability I call that false.

He passes out of the zone, he covers his zone, makes smart decisions with the puck, joins the rush at the right time (ask Schneids how important that is), he plays solid D. He may not being doing things to your liking, but your expectations have nothing to do with the NHL and the players that are on the teams.

This is a second year player, playing on a team that is stacked and he is LEARNING how to play at an NHL level. If you expect him to jump on the ice and in the first year or two be playing like an all star with 6 man minutes you have set unattainable goals.

No one player loses a game, just like no one player wins a game. Last night was a team win, from Downey to Zetterberg Team win!

Lebda is not Dion Phanuef, nor is he Brian Campbell so don't expect him to be.

Since Lilja is such a turnover machine he must have a horrible +/- right, 0 not bad but lets look at that a bit closer, lets see what it was before the 6 game skid +5 not bad, but for this team not great, but far from say Rob Blake's +/-. Well if he is a turnover machine surely his coach (seeing as Babs is pretty good at sending a message with minutes, see: hudler) will reduce his minutes. Well he averages about 18 minutes a games, in the last 10 he has 2 games of under 18 and 8 games of 19:52 or more.

I am not sure what you see in their games that turns your stomach so much.

Again I ask this question out of curiousity:

I understand not liking someone on the team you root for, I know there are wings I don't like on the current roster, but it seems like you and others root against these players? Why?

Some posters take every chance they can get to bash Red Wings players.

But why root against them?

I am not saying lets have a hand holding everyone agrees board like most people I ask this question come back with for a defense, but talk logically about the issues this team has, why trash players, why start threads just to berate players from the team you root for? Is a thread about trading a player for a hamburger really rooting for your team?

Man I love this board sometimes. I've been tooting Meech's horn all season, I've been impressed with him all year, and love the potential he has. All year I've been told "nope he is a career AHL player, he is only up because he is out of waivers."

Guess what Meech proved last night he is a very talented player, and now everyone is like oh I love Meech....

At least people finally see eye to eye with me on this one now.

I've been saying since before the season that Meech is probably more talented than Lebda, but Lebda would get more playing time because he was on the roster last year and knows the system. I wouldn't be surprised to see Meech above Lebda on the depth chart by the end of 2008-09.

Quincey had a Dallas player to the side of the net. Lilja was the closet to the guy who scored.

I like Quincey much better than Meech. If Meech is playing well, then that makes me happy because it increased his trade value. But IMO, hes behind Quincey and Ericsson, and he plays a much more boring game than both those guys. Not really fast, not big, not particularly skilled. Hes close to a dime a dozen player...
