Salviaman 104 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 We have the best team in the NHL when we don't have injuries, but we do have INJURIES and we needed to fix them with new players which Holland did not do as promised. That being said I agree with you guys that we needed to add a scorer like a Satan or a Hossa. I have lost faith in Holland and I hope that the door hits him in the ass when he steps down/or gets fired as GM for another 1st round playoff exit. The farthest I see this current team making it this year is the 2nd round thats it. Holland needs to step down as GM. THIS TEAM has had it's best shot to win the cup in years, and it would of helped to get a top 6 forward onto this team but Holland lied to the fans again. As much as it hates me to say this, we will not be a REAL playoff team come April. We are soft, we get pushed around. The time to add a elite forward was now and we didn't do it so now we will pay the price for it. If Holland thinks McCarty is some sort of Hockey God and Stuart is the 2nd coming of Scott Stevens then kudos to him, but the real REALITY of the situation is very gloomy and grim. It is a sad day to be a Wings fan today. Thanks Kenny Holland, thanks a lot buddy. I actually feel sorry for the fans in the Detroit area who have to pay out the butt to see the Wings lose another 1st round playoff series.

edicius 3,269 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 This is the way I see it, logically and not all panicky: Ken Holland did not adequately address this team's needs at the deadline, not even from a "depth" standpoint. If we face injuries in the post-season, we're all but guaranteed to not find ourselves going very deep. Can this team win the Cup? Of course. But that's assuming the ENTIRE roster is healthy. Once injuries are introduced into the mix, all bets are off. We're simply not deep enough to overcome those injuries.
Wing Across The Pond 196 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 The thing is... everyone seems to forget that the playoff aren't even next month... they're two calander months away. What if we got Hossa and he went cold (like he seems to do) during the playoffs? Flipp may pick up his game come post-season and (touch wood) all our injuries will be healed. I think with the addition of Stuart the best D in the league just got a little stronger and I'm happy with that. Theres no point us bitching and whining cos we just need to sit pat and wait. If we get a good result today, get a second liner on the scoresheet then confidence will rise a little. Then who knows how our season will go? Doms back tonight... that will take some pressure off Ozzy and should restore some faith in whatever D is left ( ). We just have to get the season over with and support the guys... especially people like Sammy (although I wish he'd drop down the lines myself) as they're the people who need it the most at the mo. We know he can get shots on net and we need to support him every game. If we get a good result tonight then our form should pick up but we need some hard work and support! The playoffs aren't here yet... just need to keep going. GO WINGS!
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 Let's vote. Pin this thread until the second round? Also: We have the best team in the NHL when we don't have injuries, but we do have INJURIES and we needed to fix them with new players which Holland did not do as promised. How so? There's four defensemen hurt, Holland traded for a defenseman.

We desperately needed another scoring forward, and the fact that we had $5 million of cap space and that Holland SPECIFICALLY said in the off-season he saved room for a scorer at the deadline. He didn't pull the trigger... Edited February 26, 2008 by ShanahanMan
Opie 308 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 How do any of us know what Holland offered for Hossa, maybe he said flip and kindl and Atl said no, because they knew what Pit would offer. You do realize that the Sellers, not the buyers control how most trades work out. Holland makes an offer hoping that the offers he doesn't see are not better than his. Maybe Waddell like other GM's don't like dealing with Det and making them better.
DaWingsin071 4 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 As I have stated before I love this time of year. People are nuts and they go nuts as well. Lets all get pissed because Holland did not over pay for Hossa who will be a UFA after this season. Fedorov, oh no, as one of the biggest Feds fan of all time, we all know his time has past. Jokinon (SP?) Did not go anywhere. We also forget that Sundin was ours untill he did not waive his NTC. And apparently we were close to getting Campbell but for Kroner, OK Kronner is injury prone but I would rather keep Niklas. So with all that said, we were the #1 team before we got injured, we now have one of the best top 4 defencemen in the league. We added some beef with Mac. We also have the best goaltending duo. Once all the puzzle piceses come into play we should be just fine. Everyone is now scared of Dallas, Two words Marty Turco. And last but not least. Being from MN we did not trade to get Chris Simon. Oh how I am gonna rub into my buddies face. What a dumb move. That is all. GO WINGS
Stu in Israel 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 There's a big difference between a team's "wish list," and the actual securing of those "wishes." Here's Holland's words on this matter, from an article in the Freep: Holland said he had some conversations with Atlanta general manager Don Waddell, his former assistant, about Marian Hossa. Hossa ended up going to Pittsburgh for prospect Angelo Esposito, forwards Colby Armstrong and Erik Christensen and a first-round pick. “Anytime a deal is made, just analyze the deal,†Holland. “Angelo Esposito is a number one overall draft pick. Just look at our lineup and start plugging things in.†I.e., it would have cost the Wings Brandon Smith, Valtteri Filppula and Johan Franzen, plus a pick. I (Stu in Israel) say enough of the doom and gloom, and enough of the Holland-bashing!
TK19 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 (edited) Some of you guys on here are absolutely amazing. I mean seriously we make one move(a good move imo) and the sky is fallin? Gimme a flippin break. We got a much needed defensemen WITHOUT giving up a young player. And dont forget we did sign DMac, thats like making a trade in itself again WITHOUT giving up a young player. We can win the cup with this team. Yes we hit a rough patch the last few weeks. But that s*** happens in the game of hockey, what did you expect us to stay on that win pace and stay healthy the rest of the season? I look at it this way. The guys who are injured now will be healthy AND rested for a playoff run. Our team will be just fine and i dont know about the rest of you but im excited to watch the rest of the season unfold. and stanley cup or not im a Red Wings fan for life. Also someone mentioned how we arent a deep team? How so? Look at ALL the injuries we have right now. Its like 1/3 of our roster, and its big name/key players. Not many teams if any at all can replace 1/3 of their roster and still play to the same level. Edited February 26, 2008 by TK19

DRW Dominance 255 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 My issue is not getting a guy like Prospal. We were never gonna get Hossa and I'm glad. Pitt gave up 2 roster players, high prospect, high pick. That's too much for a rental and I'm sure Pitt will tell you the same thing in the summer. You know what though. Maybe no one wanted our garbage. Like Sammy or Hudler. If we think they can't play then surely other gms think the same thing. We didn't have a lot of pieces to work with.
Opie 308 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 (edited) umm shanahanman, just so that you know, and so you can keep any credibility you should change Markov/Schnieder > stuart to Markov/ Schneider < rafalski and Stuart But that is just me! You people amuse me, you say Holland hasn't done s*** in forever, well except the number 2 d-man (stat wise) in the league, but Rafalski is chopped liver.
