I get it. But you do realize that there will be 15 other teams that this year's Wings will need to be better than?

Doesn't matter what you have, but what you do with it.

And where will your hesitance and negativity get you or this team?

You're right Salvia. The Wings, with the current roster, will not get past the first round.

Here's to hoping that when Lidstrom, Kronwall, Rafalski, Stuart, Chelios, and Cleary are added to that roster, that the fate of the team will change. But more than likely none of those guys will have any impact on the outcome of the season, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

How do we know that? Surely not from experience. There's no reason to think that any of those players are consistent 2nd liners either in the regular season or in the playoffs. You sound like Holland's PR representative making such remarks

If he sounds like Holland's PR rep, then you're sounding a whole lot like Burke's.

I was pointing put that even though this year's team may be better than last year's team, where does that get us? This year's Stars are better than last year's, this year's Avs are better than last year's. It is 2008, 2007's team is irrelevant. We need to beat the better versions of last year's teams to win a Cup.

I have no hesitance, and the right to be negative is earned through years of allegiance. I am a Red Wings fan and I expect excellence in all forms, including the management of the team. Anything less is subject to criticism.

Come down off your high horse and stop preaching the ways of being a "true fan" or just STFU and let people discuss the topic.

-I can't lie. I was more than a bit dissapointed when we didn't get a forward. It seems to me that our depth at forward will be at a bit of a lacking if injuries arise during the playoffs. Aside from Hartigan (who will most likely stay with the team for the rest of the season), there is no other real qualified forward to call up, especially if McCarty doesn't pan out.

-I'm also still baffled as why we gave up Ellis, as I figured it was to make room for another forward.

-Anywho, am I worried? No. I still believe we are a better team than last year, and I'm also real pleased with our depth at the back end. Going into the playoffs we'll actually have 10 defencemen ready to play if everyone is healthy. Also after tonight, I'm glad we kept Meech. When our D is healthy we'll have 7 proven NHL defensemen, not including Meech. The way he's playing we could still afford to lose a couple of Dmen during the playoffs and be fine. Of course I'm not saying I want anyone to be injured.

-We can only hope Babs lights a fire under some of our forwards. We definately don't want Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Holmstrom to be our only source of offense or we won't stand a chance. Hopefully one or two of Samuelsson, Hudler, Filppula or Franzen step it up down the stretch or all of them would be nice. We can also hope that Cleary returns in his usual form, which I'm sure he will. I however, don't have a problem with our 3rd/4th line rotation of Draper, Maltby, Drake, Kopecky, Downey and (hopefully) McCarty as each one offers something to the team. We'll also have Hartigan to round out the depth.

The lines should look something like this:
Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom
Cleary-Filppula-Franzen
Hudler-Draper-Samuelsson
Maltby-Kopecky-Drake/Downey/?McCarty?
Hartigan,McCarty

Lidstrom-Rafalski
Kronwall-Stuart
Chelios-Lilja/Lebda
Meech
(Quincey, Ericsson if needed)

Hasek/Osgood
Osgood/Hasek
Howard

-I just think the Red Wings were in a bit of a slump, that has just been exagerated by injury after injury. After everyone gets healthy, we'll be the same team that dominated for most of the season, only now we'll be a little tougher on defense with Stuart.

Didn't really have room for Ellis and by the looks of it, should McCarty be deemed worthy at the end of his conditioning stint that'll put them at 24. I guess nobody wanted to give up a pick for Samuelsson. tongue.gif Kidding fellas

Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom
Cleary-Filppula-Franzen
Hudler-Draper-Samuelsson
Maltby-Kopecky-Drake/Downey/McCarty

Lidstrom-Rafalski
Kronwall-Stuart
Chelios-Lilja/Lebda
Meech

Hasgood

Like the D more now. Offense is still a little too streaky. Here's to good streak timing drunk.gif

Still don't like Holland, but I'll save that for later.

It looks like Downey or Meech will be on the waiver wire soon.

Wasn't it fun watching the Wings blow yet another game tonight? What is our record the past 10 games? 1-7-2? Hurray! Now maybe this team can just lay down so Dallas can take the #1 spot.

I'm being totally serious when I ask this question:

Why the f*** do you feel the need to post here? You are obviously not a Red Wings fan, and the fact that you take pleasure in their recent struggles doesn't make you "too cool for the room" guy, it makes you look like a childish ****** starved for attention.

Some fans are like this. Cut them a little slack. We all risk walking that fine line between homerism and being a fair weather fan and this is a place that can also be used to vent as much as to have wild hopes. On topic to this thread, I don't think this slide means we are certainly going to lose it all. In fact, I am in a way glad we hit this lousy streak now vs. a little later. Quite honestly, I think Babcock's all out D and O style is great, but is unsustainable for an entire season.
If the regular season is a marathon, we have been sprinting for the first half. We are seeing a bunch of tired worn out Wings, but I think we will get it together.

Fair enough. I realize there is also a fine line between optimism and blatant homerism, but what some people are spewing is not just un-homerism, it's pure defeatism, and before the playoffs have even started, no fan should have that attitude.

the Pistons need a backup point guard, they get one. the Tigs need a middle reliever, they get one. we just need a friggen second-line scorer and all hell boils over for the wet-blanket forum mommies.

And they are saying how bad they've been in the last how many ever games. yeah how come they keep losing with 4 of their top 6 dmen out? What the hell is wrong with this team? Time to blow them up!

holland didn't get a forward boo hoo. he didn't see anything he liked for the price so he didn't do it. A lot of people here would have given up whatever. Thats why fans don't run the team. I have faith in a guy who has kept this team at the top of the league when all of a sudden he couldn't just spend to fix things anymore.

Give me a legit situation from yesterday were Holland had a shot, just a shot at getting a legit secondary scorer.

Feds, wasn't going to end up in Det via the trade wire, maybe Free agency but with reports players didn't want him, I doubt it.

Hossa, not secondary scoring, this man is a first liner, and Det was not matching Pit offer.

Forsberg, already said he wasn't going to Det

Lapointe, Chi was not trading with a central Division rival.

Richards, not for what Dallas gave up, Det was not giving them Howard.

Other forwards traded:
Simon, Bochenski, Segal, Hlavac, Hossa (Marcel), Kilger, Motzko, Dupuis, Pettinger, Ruutu

Come on seriously, where is all of the second line scoring going to come from in this group?

Personally, I think we easily have a shot at the Cup with everyone healthy. The only reason we didn't win last year was because of injuries.

My question is this; if we do not win this year, does anyone feel that we need a coaching change? I only ask because it seems like we have had some of the most talented teams the last few years and the one constant through it all has been Babcock. I was just wondering if anyone thinks this.

We have the best team in the NHL when we don't have injuries, but we do have INJURIES and we needed to fix them with new players which Holland did not do as promised. That being said I agree with you guys that we needed to add a scorer like a Satan or a Hossa. I have lost faith in Holland and I hope that the door hits him in the ass when he steps down/or gets fired as GM for another 1st round playoff exit. The farthest I see this current team making it this year is the 2nd round thats it. Holland needs to step down as GM. dry.gif

THIS TEAM has had it's best shot to win the cup in years, and it would of helped to get a top 6 forward onto this team but Holland lied to the fans again. As much as it hates me to say this, we will not be a REAL playoff team come April. We are soft, we get pushed around. The time to add a elite forward was now and we didn't do it so now we will pay the price for it. If Holland thinks McCarty is some sort of Hockey God and Stuart is the 2nd coming of Scott Stevens then kudos to him, but the real REALITY of the situation is very gloomy and grim. It is a sad day to be a Wings fan today. Thanks Kenny Holland, thanks a lot buddy. ranting.gif

I actually feel sorry for the fans in the Detroit area who have to pay out the butt to see the Wings lose another 1st round playoff series. mad.gif

Jumping of the band wagon already the Wings have 5 key players injured rite now,4 top dmen and 2 of them were 1 & 2 in the NHL in +- . People said the Wings were soft last year and they were only 1 win from the finals so instead of naysaying support the team and hope for the bounces to go the rightway, as for Kenny screwing up time will tell that I do know that most of the teams were asking for Erikson and I for one is Damm glad Kenny kept this kid!

The West is so competitive that any of the top 8 teams could win the Cup this year.
If the Wings bow out in the 1st I won't be shocked just because of this fact.

I will, however, be miffed if we get beat out because our goaltending lets in 1 soft goal a game or we're pushed to the parameter because we don't have enough grit to fight for loose pucks in the 'hard' areas of the crease.

If this team is healthy it's better than last year's.

Indeed. Sure we still have some dead weight but we got rid of Lang and Bert's lazy asses (still don't understand what happened to Calder, he started out so well confused1.gif ) and our youngsters are a year older (of course the grandpa's are older as well but you know what I mean laugh.gif ). Now we added Stuart to add depth to defense, the lack of which killed us last year after the injuries to Kronner and Schneids.

I would have loved to add a scoring winger as much as the next guy but I believe in this team and you gotta make the best of what you have.
Thank You TeeMan
