barnettkid14 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 Hey everyone, this topic is more or less to get your opinions on wheather or not you think Alexander 'The Great' is going to pull it off. His team is 9-1 in their last 10 games which is extremely impressive. They are tied with Carolina for the lead in their division, so I think that is where they will slip into the playoffs. Carolina are only 6-3 in their last 10 games and lost to the caps last night, so I think that tells you which of the two will make it (hopefully). I'm a huge fan of Ovechkin. When he and Crosby came into the NHL, all the buzz was about the two of them and who would do better. Crosby may have missed a lot of games this year, but even still I think Ovechkin would have bet him in the point race. Ovechkin is more of an ideal hockey player really, he isn't scared to get into somebody's face or take a hit for the team. The game that he got his nose broken and then went and scored a goal about a minute later did it in my books, fav player outside of the wings by far. Discuss!! FinWing 26 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 What I find hilarious is that they're likely to finish either 3rd or 9th, quite a jump. Same for Carolina. Their division is lazy and it sucks.
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 They need to win both games (against Tampa and Florida) AND Carolina must loose at least one point against either Tampa or Florida. Then Caps will clinch division title. Or: (assuming Caps will win both remaining games) a) Flyers will get no more than 2 points in 3 games b) Boston will get no more than 2 points in 3 games c) Ottawa will get no more than 2 points in 2 games c) Rangers will get no more than 1 point in 3 games What if two teams, say Caps and Senators, will both finish with 94 points. What statistic will decide wheter Caps or Sens are in? Is it GF GA difference or more Wins or something else?

Guest Mr. Byng Report post Posted April 2, 2008 What if two teams, say Caps and Senators, will both finish with 94 points. What statistic will decide wheter Caps or Sens are in? Is it GF GA difference or more Wins or something else? From NHL.com: 1. The greater number of games won. 2. The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing. 3. The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season.

Guest Mr. Byng Report post Posted April 2, 2008 Sens are 6th now with 92 points, but they've played 80 games. NYR (93 pts), PHI (91 pts) and BOS (91 pts) have played 79 games. PHI and BOS have a very good chance in surpassing Sens. BUF has such a little chance anymore as they have 88 pts and two only games left. My prediction is that either Caps or Canes will be left out, but other than that it stays the same. Sens might end up as 8th seed though. It's funny how teams have already played about 80 games, but still the last 2-3 games mean so much for their destiny. It's exciting how close the league is. FrozenPuck 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 The Caps run for the playoffs is nothing short of amazing - 9-1-0 when it counts is pretty impressive. And it's leading to a pretty full bandwagon of new fans, kinda like so many jumped on it last year with Crosby and the Pens against Ottawa.

akustyk 84 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 I want to see Ovechkin in the playoffs. Simple as that. ditto. and as a fan of Caps I'd also love to see the team at least having some taste of playoffs. they have plenty of skilled young players who deserve the chance. the team lacks polishing but there's immense talent which could be pleasure to watch in a best-of-seven

shannyfan1414 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 Well at this point the bigger questions is if his team is ready to give AO everything that they have to help him get into the playoffs. I think that AO has done everything and then some to try and get the caps into the post season. At some point he needs to be able to get a lot of help from his team to get him the rest of the way. God i hope that they make it this year. He has torn up the league and deserves a shot in the playoffs. To top it off it looks like it would be AO vs. the Kid in the first round. I know it would be highly unlikely but i really hope that Caps knock off the Pens.

Caps are great team in development and Pens are already a set-up team, not just a good collection of promising players. Pens teamwork will most likely make it a short series. and I too would love to see Caps going deep. but this team is not there yet

I've always liked the Caps and since Ovechkin has arrived I've only gotten to like them more. They deserve a shot, and I'd like to see some fresh faces in the Eastern playoffs. He has been getting fantastic support from his teammates. Everyone seems to have stepped it up.
